Spring is so much prettier in Oregon than in California, but CA smells so much better.

I spend most days by myself now. As a teacher, I saw about 200 ppl a day. Big change. Introvert batteries fully charged. Am desperate to game. Fading Suns can't start soon enough. I don't miss teaching at all, but I really miss my students. Even the irritating ones. Need to write that book.

A dear friend gave me a cookbook of Jewish recipes written down by Holocaust survivors. I am deeply touched. It's one of those gifts you don't know you want until you get it. It's exactly the kind of history we need to preserve.

Our license plates finally came. Now we own a house in Oregon, have Oregon driver's licenses, and have Oregon plates. At some point I may start feeling like an Oregonian, but I still think of myself as a Californian. 49 years in one state kinda does that to a girl.

Glad to see the protests, but just looking at the crowds in the photos makes me anxious. Saw something about massive medical data sets being lost because of Kennedy and that made me profoundly sad. What a waste of all of the Covid, cancer, etc. deaths and the $$$$ of research, time, etc.

The Canada thing hurts more than I expected. Why Canada? Why piss them off? What is the point? We've been friendly since just after the War of 1812. I've spent my life thinking "at least we don't have to worry about war with the North," and now...but I like Canadians!

Portland is gorgeous today. Had a wonderful morning at the Japanese Gardens and then brunch with friends. I wish the world wasn't going to shit.

My next editing class starts next Monday. Next Thursday I fly to Crete for 8-9 days. I thank my lucky stars that the first week is always "introduce yourself" and nothing more strenuous, but I'm going to have to cram my first real assignment into the 3 days I'll be home between trip and due date.

Context: a man is dying of old age/sickness. "When a man couldn't preside competently over the lowliest throne in the land, what dignity was left in living?" #amreading

It would be nice to know how my friends are doing, but all I ever see on social media any more is a perpetual list of Trump and Musk doings. I miss my friends.

Also, while I'm still in a cane-waving-at-clouds frame of mind, I am so sick of having to get a 6-digit code texted to me before I can log into anything. I mean, I get 2FA for banks, but my hair stylist doesn't need 2FA to permit me to schedule an appt. Can we just stop with the nonsense?

Just remember, friends: deregulation ==> stalled cars all over the freeway at rush hour. Grr.

In all my 50 years I have never been in a major metropolitan area with more stalled cars on the freeway on the daily than here in Portland, OR. You'd think their DMV would have laws passed that called for better cars, but apparently not. *Every time* I have to go somewhere, there's a stalled car.

I am making a website. This is not a skill that I have. I'm pretty sure I'm going to make a huge mess at some point very soon now. Also, I don't have a logo and I need to have someone design one. Fortunately, there are many tattoo artists in Portland.

Gas is $2 cheaper a gallon in Portland. Wow.

I've just spent 9 hours in the car and my tailbone hurts like you wouldn't believe. >.<

I'm in Eureka. It's raining. I have passed three arks under construction already.

I think Trump believes Canadians are polite push-overs. No. nationalpost.com/news/canada/...

I got 112/120 on my final for copyediting and have an ending grade of A-. If I had gotten 113/120, I'd have had an A. D'oh! My nerdy little heart is unhappy about this.

I applied for a minimum wage job at a national chain and had my form letter rejection less than 2 hours later. I was probably rejected by algorithm, as I totally qualified for the position but "declined to state" my disability and/or am 50, and the rejection came faster than if someone read my app.

A friend shared some excellent news and now I am very happy. The news has nothing to do with me, but it's so nice to hear something wonderful, sweeter because of all of the crap in the world. It's a good day.

"We are experiencing high call volumes ..." Okay. Maybe you should HIRE MORE PEOPLE.

I fund an immigration lawyer through Patreon so he can provide low-bono services to poor immigrants. He sends out a newsletter. Today's newsletter was a doozy. It covers Mahmoud Khalil's arrest, why the arrest is legal, the history behind the legality, and a bit about what can be done about it. /1

Just learned about #stetwalk today in my copyediting class. I'm looking forward to posting my own #stetwalk photographs! youtu.be/gga9ok9bDcY?...

As part of leaving Facebook, I have put everyone's birthdays back in my calendar, lol. That birthday reminder was probably the most useful add-on FB ever made.

I'm going too. We have seats. We have earplugs. We have to be in bed by 9 PM, but that's okay because Reznor is older than we are and has an earlier bedtime. #toooldtoparty

We moved last weekend. So far our temp home has ants, a broken dishwasher, one of those one-machine washer/dryer combos that never work, and we can clearly hear everything the folks living in the basement say. Our property manager is appalled (she's new). I think the owner is questionable.

Every doctor, dentist, radiologist, etc has their own app and they all start with "My." I don't know which app goes with which office or whether I've set up the app for a particular place. I am apped-out. MyChart, MyHealth, MyChartSmiles, and MyExamAnswers can all take a hike.

Jewish class this week was on Passover and food. The food part is neat. Also found that there are no Jewish bakeries in the greater Portland area. What what?? There's a Safeway with good hamentaschen, but that's it. If I weren't going into writing/editing, I'd open a bakery. #needcookies

It irks me that CA, a bastion of liberalness, must keep electing utter toads like Gavin Newsom. No one likes him. He's repugnant. Can't the state elect decent Dems? I'd rather vote for Schwarzenegger than Newsom, and S is (barely) GOP. Personal ethics count for something.

Gavin must recant and apologize.

We are mostly settled in our new digs, and I like this place much better than the last place, though the neighborhood isn't quite as neat/walkable. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I'll be able to write again, if I'm not job hunting.

Hooray for Vermonters!

One of my editing classmates also has ADHD and he writes his discussion questions just like I do. We have decided to be friends.

It's National #GrammarDay. Support your local Grammar the Grammarian!

Amused the young Walgreens employees tonight when Paul and I went reader shopping. "I can see again!" "Literacy for everyone!" Etc. Forgive any typos; I don't have my readers on. #amoldandwriting

We have been here four hours and already the cats have visibly damaged the couch. It's a good thing it's only worth $500 and we've already budgeted to replace it.

My dearly beloved orange cat is licking the clean floor. Paul calls her our "feline circumstance." Now she's attempting to eat his backpack straps. "Two orange brain cells," indeed.

Also, moving sucks.
