Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

Oh my god you want me to find "evidence" before putting someone in jail? Every time?? Do you have any idea how long that would take

Also, let's be clear: Having a criminal record also doesn't mean you should be deported to a torture camp in another country and effectively sentenced to death. Because everybody has basic rights, and because dictatorships will always redefine what "criminality" means.

bloomberg: ~90% of deported migrants to el salvador had no criminal record

Letter from Dem Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) requesting a meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele To discuss MD father Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return "If Kilmar is not home by midweek – I plan to travel to El Salvador this week to check on his condition and discuss his release."

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

AOC: How can anyone possibly make an objective vote on healthcare, energy, or war when their personal wealth is tied up in pharmaceutical, oil and gas, or defense company stock?

Americans have changed their mind about nuclear power

Georgetown scholar Dr. Khan Suri, who was abducted by ICE, was refused food/water to break Ramadan fast, housed in a room without a bed, and issued *used* underwear. His child cried for days after he was taken and has since stopped speaking. ccrjustice.org/home/press-c...

If "protests in all 50 states" wanted above-the-fold coverage in @nytimes.com, they should have been "seven random Americans" instead

"Shame on you" -- Leavitt gets mad at @andrewfeinberg.com for asking her about a document indicating that tattoos are all it takes for migrants to get sent to a slave prison in El Salvador

All Michigan Law students got this email today threatening to sue the school for, basically, discriminating against white men. Warns students applying to law review not to discuss their "race, sexual proclivities, or gender non-conforming behavior," or "FASORP will ensure that you live to regret it"

NEW: @aclu.org obtained ICE's "Alien Enemies Act Validation Guide," confirming all it takes to be sent to rot in prison in El Salvador is being Venezuelan and 1) having a tattoo an ICE officer says is a "gang tattoo" and 2) displaying "logos," "symbols" or clothes an ICE officer says are gang signs.

He fired the black chairman of the joint chiefs for being woke and hired his brother.

JFC, Fulbright scholar not accused of any crime, no immigration violation, no reason to expect any violence -- just Marco Rubio's whim -- and instead of summoning her first step is no-uniform / no-ID guys in masks and hoodies grabbing her off a public street.

World historical grifting and corruption

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back. This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008. Also bigger than the 2024 DNC. And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

Due process “is how any of us can have confidence that the folks being packed onto airplanes and whisked off to El Salvador are members of TdA—as opposed to US citizens; political dissidents; or others whom the Trump administration would just as soon be rid of.” www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-133-...

Once you establish that people can be punished because the administration doesn't like their speech, expanding the bounds of who can be treated that way becomes inevitable.

there isn’t a big list of “likely criminals who are also here without proper visa/docs/whatever” with pics and addresses. there is however a big list of people who have tried to navigate our kafka-esque immigration system in good faith, and sometimes some of them have slipped up.

NEW: Family of Mahmoud Khalil just released footage of his arrest “Stop resisting” “He’s not resisting” Agents seen continuing to ignore Mahmoud’s wife as she asks basic questions

OK, a roundup response to the "they won't follow the court orders" people. First of all, you're wrong! The administration *is* following many of the court orders. What's more, they're showing their understanding of the validity of court orders by seeking stays pending appeal when they lose.

This should be read as a regime commitment to systematic First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, and Fifth Amendment violations.

If Americans don't like the direction of the country, they should speak directly to power—either by taking a Supreme Court justice on an all-expenses-paid trip or by paying Donald Trump 5 million dollars to have dinner together.

We can quibble about the placement of each item but the original sin here is the very existence of this graph. Why on earth would a news organization rank social issues like they're weapons in an RPG?

Elon Musk claims he mistakenly fired Ebola prevention workers, then quickly fixed the error. But Ebola programs are still in tatters, along with other livesaving efforts like AIDS treatments for children.

Massive encroachment by Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section - makes clear dissenting views will not be published I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know

Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

For those who haven’t seen this MASTERPIECE in person yet, it is meant to be viewed from 3 angles: From below: map of CTA network From side: picture of bus From front: picture of train

We love merit, don’t we folks?

By accepting Trump’s anti-Black premise and regurgitating the narrative that equates anything Black as DEI, the NY Times has become part of the propaganda machine

another thing every other president in history would be impeached for just happened

The darkest predictions, the ones that could get you laughed out of polite conversations. Never going to happen. Ridiculous. TDS. It is February, and this is what’s happening.

i feel like this is evidence for my view that people experience trump through a strong form of ironic detachment. they literally do not perceive him as real.

Don’t look away from the needless death being inflicted around the world by the Trump/Musk shutdown of USAID. Even if the federal courts ultimately save the agency, thousands of people will have died in the meantime. Because of a billionaire’s spite, sadism, and paranoia. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Regular reminder that this entirely comes down to retirements. I think it's good that old people are able to stop working, and that we have payroll-tax-paying-aged people coming here from around the world to keep things going

The lengths to which the American press is going to describe Donald Trump's Gaza plan in every other way but as ethnic cleansing is quite something

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IS A DEPARTMENT CREATED BY STATUTE; IT CANNOT BE ELIMINATED BY EXECUTIVE ORDER! EXECUTIVE ORDERS CANNOT REPEAL STATUTES! JUST LIKE DEPARTMENTS CANNOT BE CREATED BY EXECUTIVE ORDER! she shouts into the void

Exclusive: Federal workers have filed an emergency motion requesting a restraining order to disconnect the DOGE server that's being used to conduct Trump's "deferred resignation program." The workers had previously accused DOGE of illegally bypassing a mandated privacy audit. By me at @wired.com:

Musk has had no problem naming individual federal employees he thinks should be fired (see article). Now he wants anonymity and zero oversight for his officials who are creating a constitutional crisis. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/fake-jobs-...

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

DEI is when a woman or non-white person who is qualified for a job receives that job. The meritocracy is when a 19 year old gets to run the United States government because he posted the dankest memes

Has congress passed a law superseding or eliminating the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961? Has the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional? Then why are journalists reporting that Trump and Musk are "shutting down" USAID. They are not authorized to do so.

Everything is fine.
