Our local Labour team were out in south-west Ipswich this morning. As you'd expect, the Orwell Bridge and the need for a Northern Bypass came up repeatedly during conversations with residents. Join over 1,300 people and sign the #BackTheBypass petition! www.ipswich-labour.org.uk/ipswich-nort...

It was a privilege to join Combat2Coffee for their Bigger Breakfast - part of Armed Forces Week. I was delighted the Minister for Veterans and People, Alistair Carns, was also with us. Thank you to all everyone who serves in our armed forces and the families that support them.

Over 1,000 people have already signed the #BackTheBypass petition. Please keep signing and sharing: www.ipswich-labour.org.uk/ipswich-nort...

I #BackTheBypass because I want to get Ipswich moving, but I need your help to break the deadlock. Sign and share my petition to urge the Suffolk Conservatives to stop blocking progress and revive proposals for a Northern Bypass: www.ipswich-labour.org.uk/ipswich-nort...

The Suffolk Conservatives say they cancelled their work on the Northern Bypass due to a lack of political support. Now I'm the MP for Ipswich, they have got it. If they develop and support the plans, we can work together to fight for the funding we need to build it. It is time to Back the Bypass.

As I warned ahead of the repairs to the Orwell Bridge, Ipswich and the surrounding area is paying the price for the Suffolk Conservatives' negligence. They cancelled work on a Northern Bypass without proposing a credible, deliverable alternative. This situation cannot be allowed to continue.

I loved welcoming students from Ipswich to Parliament yesterday. Copleston, Ipswich Academy, St Alban's and Stoke High all came to visit as part of the Thomas Wolsey 550 project. We talked about the change they wanted to see, both nationally and locally. They were absolutely brilliant 👍

I was delighted to join Ipswich Windrush Society for their Windrush 77: Heritage and Legacy Festival. A celebration and commemoration, full of sun, music and food in Landseer Park on Saturday, plus more on Sunday too! Huge congratulations to Max and everyone who made it such a special weekend.

Happy Suffolk Day! Earlier this week, I was delighted to host an event in Parliament to celebrate everything great about our county. A huge thank you to Steve Reed MP for your kind words, the University of Suffolk for your generous sponsorship, and to everyone who joined us for making the journey.

This evening I voted for NC1 which decriminalises abortion for women. The change means women will no longer face investigation, arrest, prosecution or imprisonment, and it marks the biggest step forward in reproductive rights in almost 60 years. My statement 👇

For years, it felt like the East of England was overlooked when it came to critical infrastructure - and the jobs and investment that go with it. Under this Government, that's changed. Sizewell C, East West Rail, Universal Studios, Stansted and Luton airport expansion and more are all on the way.

Fantastic early 90s outfits. Fantastic Dad. Happy Father's Day x

It was such a pleasure to join the Ipswich Central Kumon Centre for their awards yesterday. Education opens so many doors, and we want all children to reach their potential. Congratulations to the students who are making such incredible progress. You deserve this recognition for your hard work.

♥️☀️ Another special Brighten the Corners weekend. 2 days. 7 venues. 70+ acts. Sun. Music. Joy. Ipswich's music scene is exploding, with people coming from all over to soak it in. To Joe, Marcus and every single person who made it happen - thank you. Roll on #BTC2026!

Ipswich and Suffolk were at the heart of the Government's Spending Review, with the green light for Sizewell C heralding a new era for jobs and investment in our town and county. My latest @eadt.bsky.social / @ipswichstar.bsky.social column 👇

This summer, Jade will mostly be reading Jane Austen. (Get down to Dial Lane Books, Ipswich's only independent book shop!)

It is eight years since the Grenfell Tower fire, an avoidable tragedy that claimed the lives of 72 people. The Building Safety Crisis is an ongoing nightmare for many people, including in Ipswich. Despite some progress, there is so much to be done, and we cannot rest until homes are safe.

I'll be hosting my next public town hall on Saturday 21st June - this time we'll be talking about healthcare. Come and discuss your experiences of Ipswich Hospital, GP services, mental health, social care, dentistry and more. Please RSVP by filling out my survey - links below.

I am really pleased to see such good progress on Ipswich's @eastenglandamb.bsky.social hub. Backed up by our Government's investment in a new fleet of ambulances for our region, this is welcome news for local people as we look to cut waits for ambulances and emergency care.

Brighten the Corners starts today! I am so excited Ipswich's multi-venue live music festival is back. 🧑‍🎤 More than 70 acts, bands and DJs 🎤 7 venues 🗓️ 2 days ☀️ And it is sunny! All the info here (tickets still available from the box office): www.brightenthecorners.co.uk/festival

I'm very concerned a number of residents haven't received communication from Pier regarding St Francis Tower. If you've been affected, please email me at [email protected] I'll keep doing everything in my power to finally bring this nightmare to an end.

I warmly welcomed the Chancellor's Spending Review, and what it will mean for Ipswich. I highlighted how our Free School Meal expansion will benefit 6,500 children in our town, and how investment into @sizewellc.bsky.social will provide skilled, secure well-paid employment for local people.

What does the Spending Review mean for Ipswich? - Funding boosts for our critical services like health, education, and policing - Free School Meals for 6,500 children - Money to build new social and affordable homes - Warm Homes Plan to cut energy bills - Jobs and investment from Sizewell C

The Prime Minister came to Ipswich to announce a new era. Not just for our nuclear industry and our country's energy security, but for jobs and investment in our town and county. The green light for Sizewell C was a huge boost for local people and businesses, but we are only just getting started.

Our Labour Government's expansion of Free School Meals will benefit more than 6,500 children in Ipswich. It will put £500 back in the pockets of local families and lift children out of poverty. This decision will make such a difference to so many children and families in our town.

A statement regarding sanctions on Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich.

Sizewell C is as much about people as it is about power. I am proud that the Prime Minister has given the green light for a project I have long championed because of what it will mean for people in Ipswich and Suffolk. And the best part? This is only the beginning of a new era.

I was delighted to host the first town hall of my Summer Series on Friday, where I was joined by local residents, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk Law Centre and ihAg to talk about housing. We'll be speaking about health at my next town hall on 21 June. RSVP by filling out my survey - link below 👇

Huge credit to @suffolkpolice.bsky.social and Suffolk Trading Standards in acting swiftly following our Government's ban on single-use vapes. This operation seized 400 illegal vapes in Ipswich. We are tackling the flood of litter onto our streets, and protecting children from vaping.

🥊 You have done Ipswich proud, Fabio Wardley. What a night for our town. Thank you to everyone who made it happen, from Queensberry and Ipswich Town F.C., to Suffolk Police and all the staff and volunteers. And, of course, the 20,000 people who brought the noise in the rain.

Let's go Fabio Wardley. Let's go Portman Road. Let's go Ipswich.

Our Labour Government's expansion of Free School Meals will mean 6,500 more children in Ipswich will benefit from a free nutritious meal every school day. It will save families £500 a year, and help lift children out of poverty. Link to my East Anglian Daily Times / Ipswich Star column below 👇

Huge congratulations to the University of Suffolk - WhatUni’s 2025 University of the Year. I am incredibly proud to see our University recognised on the national stage. Well done to Prof. Jenny Higham and the whole team for this brilliant achievement. It is real a testament to all your hard work.

Earlier this week, I met with the Sec. of State for the Environment, Steve Reed, to discuss the shocking amount of sewage that's poured into our local rivers over recent years. I'm pleased that he's acted decisively today, and ended the Conservative era of rewarding polluting water company bosses.

Young people in Ipswich and Suffolk are desperate for their fair share of skilled, secure, well-paid jobs. To match their ambition, our Labour Government will back the next generation of builders, carers and engineers, with £5 million being invested in Suffolk's Skills Bootcamps.

The first town hall of my Summer Series takes place tomorrow evening. We will be discussing security of work and housing in Ipswich. If you would like to join the conversation and share your views, please fill out my Residents' Survey and RSVP. Click on the link below!

More good news. 5 schools in Ipswich will benefit from urgent repairs as part of our Labour Government's £470m school improvement programme. Every child deserves to learn in a safe, secure, and modern setting. These upgrades will make a real difference to pupils, teachers, and staff in our town.

A child can't learn properly if they are hungry. By expanding eligibility to those on Universal Credit, half a million more children will now receive a Free School Meal, saving families up to £500 a year. 100,000 children will be lifted out of poverty. The difference a Labour Government makes.

I've launched a Summer Series so people in Ipswich can tell me about the challenges they face, and their ideas about how we solve them. I'm hosting: - 6 Town halls - 13 Community meetings - A two-week Summer School - A Residents' Survey My latest East Anglian Daily Times / Ipswich Star column👇

Power in our Communities is essential reading as our Government looks to expand community energy. It will give local people a real stake in our clean energy future, and this report is all about how we can make it happen. Read the new report here: party.coop/community/po...
