I think this points up some of the failures of coverage of Trump's lawlessness: You could've read dozens of articles on Trump's tariff policy with no inkling of how unprecedented & legally dubious was the legal authority he claimed to impose them. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/b...

Last week my D&D group — made up of middle-aged men like me — was discussing the dilemma of having the ability to purchase extremely ludicrously expensive but very cool dice but not the energy to deal with the resulting family arguments.

Given that there has been zero national political advocacy for the abundance agenda that normie voters would ever have encountered, by contrast with the anti-corporate populisms of Sanders and Warren (honestly) and Trump/ Hawley/ Bannon/ Vance (dishonestly), 43% seems impressively high to me.

The Trump administration has taken its fight against DEI to the Fulbright program, intervening in the selection process to disqualify applicants whose projects focus on race, gender or climate change. Great reporting by @liamknox.bsky.social. www.insidehighered.com/news/global/...

www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2025/05/dont... Paul Campos: "I want to talk about a complicated subject here, which is changes in the actual status of the American middle class in economic and psychological terms."

I agree with everything in Josh's thread.

I'm sure I'll take shit for saying this, but this passage from Glenn Loury's Chronicle interview perfectly captures for me the civilizational necessity of a relatively autonomous academic sphere. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...

“The Trump administration has launched a comprehensive attack on knowledge itself, a war against culture, history, and science,” @adamserwer.bsky.social writes. “If this assault is successful, it will undermine Americans’ ability to comprehend the world around us." https://theatln.tc/HxwwbaTF

Lmao the future sucks

Just fyi, when I or anyone else in the US who writes in or around this area refers to “Indian law” or “federal Indian law” we are referring to a body of law in which the term “Indian” has legal significance. This law governs the relationship between the US and sovereign Native nations and peoples.

On Earth 2.0, folks on the other side of the aisle would say loud and clear that if "everyone involved in the deal understand the payment as the price of merger approval" then it is a bribe, and all of those people should expect to go to prison if it goes ahead in the next administration

Among many, many other things ... it's remarkable how little confidence today's GOP has in the attractiveness of American life. There was a time when it was thought that showing people from Communist countries how Americans live would make them friendlier to the U.S. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/u...

Just a note that when and if we get to do a post-Trump clean-up, let’s remove the President’s powers over things like tariffs.

We thank Reviewer 2 for their helpful feedback which has greatly improved the paper

I don’t judge people for airport drinking at any hour, not least bc people in an airport might have body clocks telling them it’s any possible time depending on where they’re from. Lord knows I’ve been in airports at 6 am local time that felt to me like midnight. But I’m half asleep and it’s 7 am

Robbie is currently training with a master swordsperson, hoping to master the "have a sword floating in front of your left fist" technique before filming begins. She is also looking into having her feet removed.

Someone please whap the computer that’s running the simulation. It’s getting so glitchy that it’s turning up stuff that can’t possibly be real. Maybe unplug it and plug it back in again. deadline.com/2024/04/aven...

My take on today's US court tariff ruling. This is an excellent opportunity for the EU and other trading partners to quit preparing packages of concessions, tell Trump to shove it and get on with trading without the US. First 300 clicks free. It being 3.42am here in London, I am now going to bed.

My initial comments on today's big ruling in our case against Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs, with key excerpts from the decision: reason.com/volokh/2025/...

This really *is* Liberation Day: The U.S. Court of International Trade this afternoon struck down Trump’s mass tariffs as unlawful. It’s a fantastic win for the rule of law, human freedom, and prosperity, and a deserved rebuke for arbitrary one-man rule over our livelihoods. /1

One of the many things Young Justice did splendidly well: Boom tubes, with accompanying sound effects.

Oh, thank goodness. This seems like one of the biggest wins of the year. Three cheers for @ilyasomin.bsky.social www.cnn.com/2025/05/28/b...

How to get yourself quoted in dozens of lawsuits.

“Seizing control of universities is among the first steps of any authoritarian regime. We’ve seen this playbook in places like Hungary. When independent institutions fall in line under political pressure, the consequences are long-term and far-reaching.” gautam.beehiiv.com/p/what-happe...

There has been so much that I had entirely forgotten about this act of malice and spite from Trump’s first day back in office. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/u...

the reporter who asked trump about "TACO" did the right thing but also probably caused a global economic depression

Conservatives kvetch all the time about how liberals hold rural areas in distain but no one in this country hates anyone more than Republicans hate cities.

For me, a new journalistic home: "Onward and Upward." My column today touches on matters personal, political, artistic, and so on. I begin with Richard Nixon (believe it or not). And the opening line of his memoirs. He had a literary sense (he really did). jaynordlinger.substack.com/p/day-one-an...
