This is an image of British Commandos on a approaching Sword Beach on D-Day, 6th June 1944. War is a horrific thing; these men left their loved ones to enter its hellish cauldron. Some never returned. We remember their immense bravery and sacrifices so that they should never be necessary again.

Rosie the Riveter, by the great Norman Rockwell, his iconic cover for May 29th 1943’s The Saturday Evening Poster. Which was exactly 82 years ago. Not many statements resonate so strongly after so many years. And Rosie the Riveter is still very much striking & meaningful & inspiring today.

When did journalism change? When I did my journalism postgrad, we were taught to ensure the opening sentence summarised the key info. Today's online 'news' writers must've been taught to ‘hide the key info until paragraph 14!' so people must tediously scroll through copious ads

On Friday @number10cat.bsky.social was out fresh after a nap...to nap outside. One presenter needed a pic whilst some other visitors just shot around him (outrageous I know). he was rather bemused lying there. before anyone asks his fur will be brushed when he's back in (have made sure of that)
