And so, @torontoargos.bsky.social training camp here at the University of Guelph is all over for another year, bar the cutting after tonight's exhibition game. I made it to about ten workouts, and enjoyed the experience immensely. Looking forward to another great season of Canada's game.

Maple Leafs fans: "What, you too?"

Oh yeah, this will go down incredibly well among Leafs fans right now.

I can't predict where he'll play. But I *can* predict that the same people who are running him out of town today will be rubbishing the organization tomorrow because he left. That's Toronto.

On the sidelines at the CFC game, I watched a volunteer supervisor provide active, focused and positive mentorship for younger officials. In the middle of it, I thanked him. When you see positives in your sport thank the person behind it, because gratitude is in short supply.

I attended today's @torontoargos.bsky.social practice with a local U18 player who plays OG/OT. I guess OL coach Kris Sweet overheard us talking, because when practice ended he invited the young man to check out the locker room and meet some players. Shout out to Coach Sweet: THIS is the CFL.

Releasing Quincey Mauger is a pretty big move. 🧐

It's a good thing nationalist and populist politicians never, ever mention history, and never, ever try to sell us their own narrow and self-serving version of the past. Otherwise these assaults on history and archaeology teaching at Cardiff and Newcastle would be rather alarming.

Wow. Jarret Doege looks GOOD. I would say "for a guy who has been in camp for just two days", but that would be a disservice to him. Good, period.

Coach Arbuckle demonstrates footwork this morning while Chad Kelly (12), Jarret Doege (16), Cam Dukes (11), and Tucker Horn watch and learn. Preseason ends in three days!

Football can be a cruel game. May we never lose sight of the human dimensions of "Next man up".

Thomson was a treasure.

Peace

Muskoka and Toronto are where my roots are, and I love paintings of both. (Yeah, Haliburton isn't Muskoka, but visually, it will do.)

Beautiful

From the Campbell ... "Camels"?! Oh, I am all over this signing.

"I'm not happy with what Putin's doing ... He's sending rockets into cities and killing people and I don’t like it at all. OK? ... Not even a little bit. He's killing people. And something happened to this guy. And I don’t like it."

I wouldn't presume to tell the Argos how to do business. But just so we're clear. I will never buy CFL merchandise that makes me a human billboard for a cryptocurrency, or a betting company, or any other sponsor whose ethical status I question. Ever.

Good thing we have people like Wendy Larner at Cardiff University willing to end the study of Greco-Roman history, literature, thought and art in these times when republics are degenerating into populist despotisms and democratic ideas are under attack from false prophets of plutocracy and theocracy

Curious! Influenced by the American pronunciation of (Ó) Mahony (i.e. "muh-HOH-nee"), maybe? For the record, the usual "McMann" pronunciation is a very poor approximation of the Irish original, MacMathgamna, anyway ...

Well now, this helps explain what I'm seeing on the field this morning. Arbuckle dressed, Dukes in civvies, Doege (I assume) wearing 16 and working quite intensively on his own with a couple of receivers. Dukes nursing something?

Ah, but Farage will do what Trump did in 🇺🇸 and Poilievre did in 🇨🇦 - 1. reject all such questions as "media bias" 2. add axing the BBC to his manifesto 3. construe all further scrutiny as self-interested So the hesitancy is understandable, if reprehensible.

FYI, CFL fans… here’s a link to the Canadian Press aggregate page of CFL stories that you can add to your bookmarks... www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/search/?tncm...

#Argos practice schedule Monday-Wednesday: 10:00-12:00 Thursday: 9:00-10:00 Friday: Preseason game vs Hamilton 7:00 at Guelph All practices at Alumni Stadium at the University of Guelph. Times subject to change. Tickets for Friday night's game at Argonauts.ca

I wish more Argos followers had headed this way from the Nazi bird app by now. But still, the (Double) Bluesky community is in good hands with Ben and @donlandrymedia.bsky.social and @mikehoganargos.bsky.social providing us with the best Argos content on social media.

I always love when they pick up a Blues player!

I love this. Not sure why! But who cares! I do.

Hard to make hide nor hair of the exhibition game - that’s why we have @coachbengrant.bsky.social! - but it was great seeing CFL football again. During the game I FINALLY managed to complete a 3-year pet project reconstructing Nobby Wirkowski’s Argonaut passing stats from 1951-54!

Fun fact: Conacher is ineligible to be enshrined as an "All-Time Argo" because he was only an Argonaut for 2 seasons. However, that rule that was waived for Doug Flutie, and the Alumni Assoc might one day waive it for Conacher too (whose career was shortened by amateur/pro issues).

Conacher's favourite sport was football - strictly amateur in Canada - and he had to turn down multiple NHL contract offers in 1920-22 to keep playing football. He was called Big Train as an Argonaut because he played like former U of T and Argos star Smirlie "Big Train" Lawson.

Hmm. What does @collinstony.bsky.social make of "played upon the broad gauge principle", I wonder. Any code welcome? (This refers to the Hamilton Football Club in Ontario, Canada, and dates from November 1869. They eventually became the Hamilton Tigers of Canadian gridiron football).
