I still think the best idea for progressive donors is to just revive every alt-weekly in the country and staff them with 10 reporters each.

A military parade in Washington for the President’s birthday is a misuse of taxpayer funds and an abuse of power by the commander in chief. This comes at the same time that the GOP are pushing through tax cuts for the rich on the backs of Medicaid, SNAP and Medicare cuts for working class Americans.

They wanted to pass this evil budget to take away healthcare from millions earlier today. It’s still stuck in the rules committee cause House Dems introduced over 500 amendments and we are lined up to debate on them. Delaying is important. Keep up the pressure on these Congressional Republicans.

People Over Profit - Tesla SF Protest Saturday, May 17, 2025 12:00 PM • Tesla SF•999 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA 94109 US

Absolutely insane

Please enjoy this stock photo the local CBS affiliate chose for a story about traffic this summer

🤷🏼‍♂️

So, yeah, Morgan is generally very bad. But this is actually a model for how interviewers should follow up with people saying outlandish things and not just move on to the next topic.

🧵1/ BIG NEWS!! CDC just dropped a landmark report — the first US data on RSV hospitalizations after rollout of the maternal vaccine and infant antibody. What happened? Hospitalizations in babies under 3 months fell nearly 50% vs pre-pandemic years. Quietly, radically effective.

Great. Now we're going to get Deep Dish Eucharist.

Shop at Lowe’s:

The port of Seattle right now. It's completely empty with no new ships coming in. We're going to have disruptions to access of basic goods unlike anything we have ever experienced in our lifetimes.

Last place. Loser.

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

This is Packwood, Wa - a predominantly red rural town, in the shadow of Mount Rainier, without even a stoplight. With a population of 319, 27 people protested for 2 hours along the highway that runs through our town. We plan to continue. @maddow.msnbc.com @hcrichardson.bsky.social

UPDATE: It happened. In an 11:15 meeting, employees were told that the office has been eliminated and their positions will be terminated.

The student paper at the college at which I teach reports a "tsunami of takedown requests" from international students terrified of being targeted for innocuous, legitimate op-eds & opinions.. Many ask in person--leave no trace in writing. Reminds me of my father's account of studying in the USSR.

Rep Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY): “Mr. Abrego Garcia must be returned immediately before he is killed in one of the most dangerous prisons in the world. Enough with the fake bravado. This is not America. The Supreme Court must aggressively enforce its order immediately.”

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

The great thing about fighting back against this stuff is that if you end up losing anyway you get the same outcome you’d have gotten from complying but you don’t have to fucking hate yourself too.

At least one US president cares to denounce this attack.

Strong moment from AOC’s speech in Utah

This is terrifying in America. ICE agents are showing up masked—these abductions must stop. If you’re going to detain someone, show your face, present a warrant, and proper ID. Disappearing people from their families without evidence or accountability isn’t law enforcement—it’s state-sponsored fear.

I don't really have anything especially profound to say, but yeah man this is it. They won't obey even the most milquetoast SCOTUS orders and are talking about sending US citizens to foreign gulags. It's happened here.

The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.

Preliminary 5.1 #earthquake in southern CA. Easily registered in Tucson.

This just in from The AP, reflecting the fact that it prevailed over the Trump WH in court last week: "Our journalists were blocked from the Oval Office today. We expect the White House to restore AP's participation in the pool as of today, as provided in the injunction order."

This episode of The Daily incredibly enlightening. A small business owner—a veteran—who makes baby gear breaks down what tariffs are doing to her company, and how impossible it is to plot any alternative future with the chaos that Trump is causing podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Another journalist running for Congress, another person who knows how to message in this environment.

Was thinking last night that laid-off journalists should really consider running for office. You know the issues. You can communicate. You know the importance of a free press and the dangers of social media oligarchs. You understand how to localize national issues. You know how to place stories.

I don’t know, millions of people got in the streets a few days ago, the moderates are freaking out about their money, and the President of the United States is carrying out a wildly unpopular, intentional demolition of the economy. Might be time for leaders with spines to actually get in the game.

Here's the webpage put up by the office of Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes for people to notify her office if they're havig problems dealing with Social Security. Every state AG's office could do this. Might help. www.azag.gov/socialsecurity

This is a terrific view of the chicago protest but the crowd was even bigger than this. Tons of spillover into the surrounding streets, too. People are ticked off & determined.

Absolutely incredible turn out at MN State Capitol! #HandsOff

NYC’s Hands Off march completely shuts down 42nd Street! #handsoff

Bless all the wonderful people marching and protesting today!

people being in the streets means something. never let your cynicism convince you otherwise.

what booker is doing right now is an example of what i mean when i say things like “we need more ambition right now.” there is room in american politics right now for people with ambition to take big stands and reap the rewards. he’s doing it!

Cory Booker is 23 hours in and somehow seems to be gaining strength

I'm not a programming guy but MSNBC and CNN should be airing this Cory Booker thing in the same way you take over programming if there's a no-hitter or a basketball player with 60 points in three quarters. It's a physical feat! Cut in for this kind of thing. Costs nothing, gooses ratings, good TV.

NEW: Thousands of CDC employees who worked on things like preventing HIV and lead poisoning have been told they were subject to a reduction in force. Experts say people will die.
