New paper! www.mdpi.com/2227-7102/15... Parent Involvement Through a Practice Theory Lens

I saw this chart elsewhere, and found the original source - Am I mansplaining? www.bbc.co.uk/worklife/art... Doesn't happen to me ALL that often - but I well remember saying to someone, 'You know you're explaining my own book to me, right?'

It's a good day that starts with an article acceptance - watch for my paper on Parent Involvement through a practice theory lens in this OA special issue: www.mdpi.com/journal/educ...

The music doesn't play unless you tell it to. Apparently just thinking that it should play... doesn't work. Who knew?

Happy #InternationalDayOfPlay from all of us at Play Scotland! 🎉🧸 Today we celebrate every child’s right to play—let’s make time for fun, freedom, and imagination! 💫🎨🏃‍♂️ Find out more about the right to play: www.playscotland.org/policy/uncrc/ #PlayEveryDay #ChildrensRights #PlayScotland

It's a small thing but I just learned how to extract all comments from a Word document into an excel sheet so I can see them easily. That makes commenting on/writing a report on a PhD thesis *so*much*easier*.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Journal of Medieval History we’ve asked eight distinguished historians each to use an article from the journal’s first five years as a jumping off point to discuss historiographical trends. @tandfresearch.bsky.social

It's all about cowls in #showmeyourknits (yes, I'm late). This is a loom knit cowl from a couple of years ago (excuse all the cat hair)

I have been trying to organise all the wool/yarn/cotton/etc. in this room. It's... sort of going well? I've found all kinds of things I didn't remember I owned. With the machines, I will get through some of it quite quickly but ....

That feeling when someone cites an article that you wrote long ago, and quite like, but didn't think anyone had ever read...

Joyful June - Day 4: Take a photo of something that brings you joy and share it actionforhappiness.org/joyful-june #JoyfulJune

Have just realised the connections - I had a PhD student at Bath who was working with the Learning Foundation, which morphed into the Digital Poverty Alliance... connections. Good things.

Shout out about Wales' inclusion of digital skills in the curriculum in the Digital Poverty Alliance launch... @proftomcrick.com @andrewjamdavies.bsky.social

There are some things I will repeat ... until someone listens? SCHOOLS DID NOT CLOSE DURING COVID. Many BUILDINGS closed - yes (though often not, as some stayed open for various reasons). The school - as a community of teachers and learners and others - went on.

Monday feels.... (Not sure how to add alt text to a reposted photo - it's a rabbit lying down, stretched out)

💬 "No child should be going hungry in the UK. It is unacceptable that children in a nation as wealthy as ours are missing out on something as foundational as adequate nutrition." @lewistibbs.bsky.social on the need for government to tackle child food poverty 👇 ww.suttontrust.com/news-opinion...

Also in #Showmeyourknits - I'm very much enjoying my Sentro...

#Showmeyourknits hand knitting from deep stash (from back when I used to buy huge job lots of unnamed wool from ebay) - 7mm needles - it's a much greener green!

You know what? I'm going to read a philosophy of education article - because I want to. Because it's interesting. It is, indeed, relevant to my interests and I may come back and take notes from it later but just now - I'm going to read it because that, too, is scholarship. Yes.

This academic year we had 11 parent engagement webinars at @uofgeducation.bsky.social and you can re-watch all recordings on our YouTube channel www.youtube.com/playlist?lis... and we'll now remind you about the 6 we had in 2025.

We all know - I think - that we can't trust everything we read online. But this might just take the proverbial biscuit....

Another story that features our Tots, Tech and Talk work - with Prof Karen Winter from QUB, who led on the statistical work involved... (the photo is not Karen!). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It is wet and cold. But at least I have 'help' with the marking...
