Pocket is shutting down. Yet another useful tool disappears. As usual, I will not be looking for a replacement, I'll either build my own alternative or just stop doing whatever that service offered.

A reminder of how these assholes behaved when we stole THEIR shit. They came for kids’ MP3s. House raids. Absolute terror. So no, we’re not gonna let you steal OUR shit.

Streaming services — music or video — that hide recent listens/watches to peddle their own suggestions or their own features misunderstand their services need to be easier and more useful than piracy to be useful.

I have French subtitles for Human Movie, which for technical reasons were not shown at last night's screening. But if anyone else wants to show the film in France or Quebec, we have subtitles! And if it's after August, I can have a French voice over. Reach out here if interested ⬇️

Stop Forcing A.I. Into Every Fucking Thing!

hello, yes, just for the record, I have NEVER wished for a document to suggest how to type in it every 5 seconds. for the love of all that has ever been actually user-friendly, cut it out

So, to prevent a would-be king to take over Canada, an actual king from a foreign country will come here to address the serfs of his dominion? Fuck monarchy, now and always, foreign and local.

WestJet, a Canadian Airline, is unable to accept accents in its text fields. The error that occurs then shows me a stupid message and a RegEx. It's 2025, I can't believe front-end developers still churn out such unacceptable non-sense.

I've been on a Steve Reich discovery streak lately. While I love "Music for 18 Musicians" and "Desert Music", I think "Electric Counterpoint" with Pat Metheny touched me a bit more quickly. Likely because it's written for electric guitar, an instrument I play.

My annual nerd purchase for almost two decades now.

Interesting "postmortem" on NFTs and cryptoart. Though, as someone who studied digital and media art, its history and its motivations, the focus on collecting and investing around those digital assets bothered me.

What is it called when your neighbour tells you he didn't set your house on fire, and wants to be rewarded for that?

Hey CANADA ! I'm sailing accross the Atlantic next September, possibly for my only visit in North America in a decade and I want to make the best of it. Exhibition spaces, museums, festivals, can you link me up with people interested in Art, tech and activism ?

In "Every tool's a hammer", Adam Savage speaks to the difficulty for makers to convey their complex mental models to others. This actually applies to every discipline: communicating a skill you perfected over years to people who do not have that background is hard.

Souveraineté numérique, une priorité moncarnet.blog/2025/02/03/s... L’actualité des derniers jours, avec la mise en place de barrières tarifaires contre le Canada par le président américain, ramène le sujet de la souveraineté numérique au premier plan.

Someone needs to explain to me, why, on many e-commerce, if you create a basket, then you log in, your basket is then empty. I assume that, when you log in, they retrieve your last logged-in basket. But, they could check still check, and merge both unlogged and logged one. Very frustrating experienc

Missing the days when art + science + technology meant some architect was inspired by bumblebees to make a glass cargo container or whatever instead of some AI thing using some other AI thing to do AI stuff

Trouvailles dans une boîte à lire près de mon atelier. Ça a l'air mauvais. J'adore.

A big heartfelt thank you from all of us at Signal to every person who has ever used Signal, gotten your friends to make the switch, and donated to support our work. It is truly an honor to build Signal for you. 💙

Excerpt from @asavage.bsky.social's "Every tool's a hammer". I certainly struggle to be my own motivator, whether it's working on my sound sculpture or conposing melodies...

New record find of the day. The Get Up Kid's "Problems" is a good record. Not really their best, but after so many years without them, it's fun to hear them again. They are punkish rock — closer to rock inspired by Bruce Springsteen than 70s punk or 90s skate punk in my ear.

New book in my mailbox this morning! I discovered Poster Children in the mid 90s, about at the same time I did Superchunk. I don't know much about them, and I am happy to find a bout written by one of the members to learn about their history, albeit late.
