So the emerging paradigms of power seem to be, "Me and Bibi do what we want in the Middle East and Vladimir you carry on doing your thing over there."

Far too many politicians treat billionaires like Ratcliffe with deference, when they should be holding them accountable. The power that comes with extreme wealth is incompatible with democracy.

AOC: When they say illegal vs legal immigration—they are trying to end legal status in the US making people undocumented and then they have the audacity to call them illegal when they were here documented.

So Gaza isn’t really a big issue for Scots? It’s a genocide. Well done Moira Berry for bringing @BBCDebateNight alive.

Three men sit in a cell in El Salvador. The first asks the second why he has been imprisoned. He replies, "Because I criticized Elon Musk." The first man responds, "But I am here for praising Musk!" They ask the third man who has been sitting quietly in the back. He answers, "I AM Elon Musk".

If you want to go viral say something like ‘anyone know a pub where they’re showing the trump vs musk twitter fight’ or words to that effect. People will lap it up. They love that kind of stuff. Tip from an old pro 😉🤫

This is entirely right. So many feel like suckers because they’re the ones following the rules and they see both that others ignore them and that those supposed to enforce the rules don’t - and it’s especially true of visible crime like fare dodging, shop lifting, vandalism.

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.

Germany’s systematic murder of 70,000 Namibians is being marked with a national day of remembrance for the first time. The Namibian genocide was perpetrated by Germans against the Herero and Nama peoples from 1904 to 1908 in what was then German South West Africa.

Dear Mr. Clegg I have started a business, selling the contents of your house I knew when I launched I did not have legal access your house Without this access my company will not be profitable Others have told me I have a flawed business model, but I disagree Please advise how I should proceed

But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?

Netanyahu is determined. He won’t stop unless he is actively stopped. It’s not about selling a few less weapons, pleading, expressing outrage & maybe ending a trade negotiation we never should’ve been in. It’s about aggressive sanctions now, expelling the ambassador & our military delivering aid.

💔 A golden opportunity to restore nature in Glen Affric has been blocked. Despite two years of gold-standard consultation and overwhelming public support, a vital beaver release project has been derailed. Why? Because the SNP caved to pressure from vested interests.

I’m old fashioned enough to think the BBC should be leading on what the deal is and what it means. Rather than the political claims from both sides.

I for one cannot fucking wait for the results of the English local elections to determine that Scotland isn't allowed to have a sensible and humane immigration policy that comes even within a few light years of meeting our economic, social and cultural needs. Again.

I guess it would be too much for them to ask whether it would improve the country rather than whether it will win votes. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"Masked security forces captured an opposition leader in the coastal province of New Jersey as regime officials continue their months-long crack-down against pro-democracy elements in the embattled United States. The arrest comes as the regime issued calls for summary detentions without trial."

Opinion from the FT's Editorial Board: 'The US and European countries that tout Israel as an ally that shares their values have issued barely a word of condemnation. They should be ashamed of their silence, and stop enabling Netanyahu to act with impunity.' www.ft.com/content/f5fd...

Do we really have to mention the Lib Dems? Well, they did come second, take control of 3 councils and will probably be running 4 or 5 more. How about we push them down to number 5 and don't mention the party in the bold first sentence. People probably won't notice them at all. Brilliant!

Lots of data to be analysed, but we know what yesterday means. Labour has fluffed its 1st year in govt: a promise of vague change followed up with no obvious change & the prospect of limited change between now & 2029. Reform is the party best exploiting the frustrations which follow from this.

These results are disastrous for anyone but the blossoming far-right. And it's inevitable that Labour will continue to offer the exact slop that has led to a surge for Reform. The press will continue to ignore the Green Party. Everyone who has called me a crank since 2016 was just projecting.

open.substack.com/pub/martinro... A stunning example of the kind of crazy nimbyism which makes infrastructure projects like HS2 impossibly expensive

A ban on the currently zero transgender women playing competitive football in Scotland, fucking incredible

Tremendous opportunity for Britain here. Let's see if we can swap our riot-inciters for their cancer researchers.

I reckon 2024 is the second election in a row to have been won by obviously malicious frauds shitehoused to power by Britain’s appalling media outlets, and the second one running where the new government made it embarrassingly obvious to everyone straight away that this is what happened.

Editor creates an AI executive who is "an expert at building and scaling digital media companies." Decides within minutes that the AI is "one of the most knowledgeable and energetic colleagues" he's ever had. Asks the AI to create a headshot of itself. It does. He sexually harasses it immediately.

They always bury this bit.

Laughing at us.

No Mr Trump. Russia started the war.

Cutting out the middle man, I guess: why give money to politicians who will set up an independent regulator of industry insiders to strip public protections on behalf of billionaires, when you can just buy the government and strip them yourself?

DOUGLAS HENSHALL 'I never thought I'd see the day when the Labour Party in Scotland would be indistinguishable from the Tory Party... As one of a significant number who moved away from Labour during the #IndyRef, I've got news for you. I'm not coming back!'

This should be in the email inbox of everyone in Scotland. They should know what kind of man Anas Sarwar is. It's, somehow, real. Looking forward to him losing his seat next year. No one who cosies up to Trump deserves a seat in our parliament.

"Treating politics like soap opera often means characters and performance get criticised, but the script is never open to challenge."
