Carl Sagan on how humanity can create its purpose and make its existence meaningful.

Brooklyn bus stop ads being replaced with guerilla public service announcements.

"In 2020, [Portland, OR] approved building [middle housing] on lots zoned for single family homes... A new report from the City says, it's working. 1,400 new units built in just a few years and each one is $300,000 less expensive than a typical single family home." @nbcnews.com

crazy that an influx of dense infill housing can lower prices and make homeownership more attainable

Congrats everyone — we are at the point where The Onion and real life are indistinguishable from one another. 😳🇺🇸 theonion.com/ice-agents-w...

If I told you how long I've dreamed of an animated newswire on theonion.com, you'd probably believe me but we'd both be embarrassed to have discussed it.

Happy 80th anniversary of Hitler killing himself in his bunker to all who celebrate, which, as I now understand it, is not everybody

Honored to receive @dc37nyc.bsky.social’s endorsement — our city's largest municipal union. As Mayor, I’ll fight every day for the hardworking New Yorkers that power our great city 💪🏾

This, to me, is the most obvious messaging opportunity *ever* for Democrats. Chuck Schumer should be on the ground in Arkansas within 24 hours and Democrats in both houses of Congress should be filing measures to provide federal funds to assist in recovery efforts. Force Republicans to say no.

If you're gonna break a public writing hiatus, get your money's worth! This is a fantastic piece.

“We are, each of us, largely responsible for what gets put into our brains, for what, as adults, we wind up caring for and knowing about. No longer at the mercy of the reptile brain, we can change ourselves.” - Carl Sagan, Cosmos

This seems quite obviously unconstitutional?

Really good, useful report from NBC — but I wish it included the precise times that these events occurred! When exactly did the buses turn around? www.nbcnews.com/politics/imm...

How about going to Louisiana to visit Khalil, Khan Suri and Ozturk?

That would be a perfect opportunity for the Democratic Party in the role of a shadow government to re-create the previous COVID website and to direct its voters there.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Tried to cap it at the moment Kelly O'Donnell processes how thirsty this question is.

oh you mean like every other time they've tried this? everywhere else in the world?

If I were Judge Xinis, I would order the government to produce, in her courtroom, officials who were in a position to answer her questions and to do so under oath. Letting DOJ continue to prevaricate and deflect responsibility in written submissions seems ... insufficient at this point.

Very informative chart from Washington Post

Are we not paying El Salvador for this prison? They’re not just doing for shits and giggles, right? If we are compensating them, then surely the government can effectuate the return of someone.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. -FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

So basically all trade between the US and China is dead due to a 104% tariff one way and an 84% tariff the other way AND THE S&P 500 IS STILL GREEN

The Dem position should be "absolutely not." If Trump wants to keep his tariffs then helping farmers means restoring USAID, restoring all the food assistance grants/contracts killed by DOGE, and expanding programs like SNAP. We're not going to hand out money to watch food rot.

A universal 10% rate, 25% rate for Mexico and Canada, and 125% for China is still an insane inflationary tax hike on the American people.

Good morning. Today is the 80th day that the U.S. President is running a backdoor bribery scheme in which any CEO or foreign oligarch can send him money secretly through his crypto coin scam in exchange for favors. It's the biggest scandal in the history of the Presidency.

This is what they're doing to Dr. Badar Khan Suri. This is not my America, and the world is aghast.

Trump wants to go back to the golden age of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory is a more accurate characaterization - again based on his own repeated statements - than whatever wishcasting others are doing.

I do not understand why Dems don’t start a daily press conference. What’s stopping them?

The fate of the entire global economy now hinges on one question: will a man who has bankrupted businesses repeatedly for decades listen to the counsel of knowledgeable advisors or continue on his current course of action?

Pretty sure that this is the first time a “One First” post has been cited in a judicial opinion—here, in Judge Thacker’s concurrence in the Fourth Circuit’s denial of the government’s stay request in Abrego García: s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

I very much recommend people watch this series of clips. I suggest doing so because I've noticed a lot of 2024 election analyses seem to 1) misrepresent what Harris said/did & 2) project upon Harris things she did not say/did not do.

You may be fearing your 401k is no longer enough for you to retire. But with all the cuts to NIH and Medicare you also won't live as long. So the policies are integrated.

"threatening" anything is bullshit. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

In WI yesterday, Schimel got 232k more votes than Dan Kelly, the 2023 GOP-backed nominee for the court. That was in line with what Rs wanted. In 2023, it would have been a win. It wasn’t bc Dems added 265k votes.

Andrew Cuomo was governor for a decade — and in that decade, NYC got more expensive and the cost of housing went up. He had a decade to fix the housing crisis and he failed. It's time for a new generation of leadership.

It's over - Crawford wins. Dems HOLD Wisconsin supreme court.

We had to ask him to stop tbh

Astonishing display of patriotism from the good senator from the great state of New Jersey

This is so on the mark. Does Booker see an opening here for himself? Absolutely. You want people like that.

Others have pointed this out already but the Booker's "stunt" is him literally Doing the Job - impassioned speechmaking is supposedly the main reason for Senators to exist and the only reason any of them from before the United States was established are remembered by name

Cory Booker has just broken Strom Thurmond's record for longest Senate filibuster ever, which stood for 68 years. Thurmond set it objecting to the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Booker set it arguing against authoritarianism. May Strom's name be forgotten and his memory erased.

Meet the new WH press corps! From Friday: OAN REPORTER: What has made you and your team so effective in finding, locating, apprehending, and deporting these violent illegal migrants? TRUMP: I love this guy. I wish more people would ask questions like that.

very important and I've been hearing the same
