With graduation this week, there are hundreds of Harvard students in their graduation regalia with their proud parents from all around the world. Taking photos on the library steps, getting a special dessert in town... I love seeing those parents every year, but especially this year. It's beautiful.

The Bukele govt sent the US a list of MS-13 leaders in US custody whom they want sent back, because they know about a gang deal with Bukele that Bukele wants to keep secret. Trump already sent one back. Here are the names, all based on Jose Olivares' reporting for @dropsitenews.com:

Inequality and starvation is a choice. The $16 billion to hire new ICE & CBP agents... could instead be... $16 billion to meet what the World Food Programme needs to "assist 123 million of the hungriest people in 2025." www.wfp.org/news/wfp-req...

Great new-ish article by Sang Won Han & Eunsil Oh. They use RCA with survey data to uncover three cultural profiles in East Asia about gender & family beliefs. Great way to measure shared vs. heterogenous "culture." Now I am curious how these profiles change over time... doi.org/10.1111/jomf...

How to use google search without AI results. I have used this "hack" for the past 5 months. No regrets.

A really great, short interview with Jocelyn Viterna that gets right to the core of Bukele's political rise and popularity in El Salvador. news.harvard.edu/gazette/stor...

Very proud of my awesome niece! She wrote this important op-ed about a new concealed carry bill in Arizona. www.azcentral.com/story/opinio...

American leaders: please lend your voice to condemn the unjust pursuit & arrests of brave journalists in El Salvador. @vanhollen.senate.gov @repyassansari.bsky.social @repdexteror.bsky.social @frost.house.gov @robertgarcia.bsky.social @aoc.bsky.social @booker.senate.gov

You need to know about this. @hrw.org @hrc.org

Nooooo this is crossing a terrible threshold :( I pray these brave journalists are safe.

This dataset is truly awesome. Check out this example map (especially Latin America) from their report introducing the dataset. Thanks to the authors & contributors! @chriswblair.bsky.social @guygrossman.bsky.social

Users of the Demographic and Health Surveys, please take the United Nations Statistics Division DHS impact survey (form.jotform.com/250913880478...) regarding recent cuts. Replies inform future planning and advocacy. All responses are confidential and presented only in aggregate.

A direct strike on her home.

The best (visual) summary of global migration patterns...ever? I'm definitely using this in class... www.nytimes.com/interactive/... Thank you Kathleen Kingsbury, Jeremy Ashkenas, Quoctrung Bui, Sara Chodosh, Aileen Clarke, Nathan Gordon, Jessia Ma, & Spencer Cohen.

I appreciate that the Tufts University School of Arts and Sciences has this prominently placed at the top of their main webpage right now. as.tufts.edu

JD Vance's argument against due process rights mimics Nayib Bukele's sleight-of-hand from 2022: "All of the focus of international human rights, including by the NGOs, is focused on the rights of criminals. ... The honorable people--nobody cares about their rights." www.youtube.com/watch?v=v05i...

Other prisons in El Salvador are even worse.

Thanks to @amowreader.com & others for gathering and making this dataset public
