"I'm still in shock. I know that there have been political issues around Harvard in recent weeks, but antibiotic resistance isn't one of them." My conversation with Harvard microbiologist @baym.lol, one of many researchers there who just lost millions in fed. grants. www.wbur.org/news/2025/05...

See this? It's called a non-inferiority trial. It compares the new vaccine with the current vaccines to see if the new vaccine does better. This new vaccine did. Placebo-controlled trials are not needed to test most new vaccines. Demanding them will only reduce vaccine access. Which is the point.

Your yearly reminder to acknowledge the core facilities you use and their staff scientists in your papers. These scientists are a crucial part of the scientific ecosystem and to continue to exist they need tangible credit for their work. Plus their associated expertise adds credibility to your work.

Light sheet baby!! QI2025

Our latest preprint www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1..., describes Willi Stepp’s project to make smart microscopy even gentler by doing event detection in phase contrast. We developed neural networks to detect mito-LD and mito-lysosome contacts, as well as mitochondrial pre-fission constrictions.

Our first prize winners for their confocal data presentation: 'Pinhole Pros' Federico & Naly!

Close to the end! #mixedfeelings

Half way there!

I spy with my little eye...a sneak peek of our light sheet microscopy lab samples! Perks of being a @cshlnews.bsky.social course is access to lots of great sample collecting spots! #catchoftheday #tardigrades

Our openSPIM is officially up and running to image the latest catch of the day! Fueled by pymmcore-plus & pymmcore-gui! 💪⚡🔬 pymmcore-plus.github.io/pymmcore-plus/ github.com/pymmcore-plu...

QI 2025 student Federico, a computer scientist, oiling an immersion lens for the first time. 💪

@fedegasparoli.bsky.social is setting up our openSPIM in preparation for the light sheet lab next week. Pro tip: Stouts block light more effectively than lagers.

Full calendar, great students, dedicated instructors & TAs, and nonstop learning! 🔬🖥️ 📊#microscopybootcamp

Excited teach & help w/BoBiAC! This course is perfect for grad students & postdocs using fluorescence microscopy to learn how to use python to process & analyze image data! Best part: it's beginner friendly - no python experience required! More info & apply: iac.hms.harvard.edu/bobiac/2025/...

Every time someone mentions using a #FRET #biosensor to me, I still think about this tweet from @joachimgoedhart.bsky.social. Even after seven long years. #Microscopy #Imaging #CellBiology #PlantMicroscopy

Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania has indirect rate of 70%, but they probably didn’t want to list that atop Harvard because defunding a children’s hospital might be perceived as problematic. This is devastating

The Senate HELP Committee has jurisdiction over NIH. GOP members of the committee represent AK, AL, IN, FL, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, OH, and SC. Research universities and hospitals in those states need to be extra loud.

I would like to point out to the finance bros out there, all your tech stocks, pharma stocks, biotechnology, they are about to tank. You defund the NIH, the universities, the research infrastructure, who do you think is buying the 10x genomics plarforms? The novel monoclonals? The NMEs?
