I lost my Duolingo streak and guess what - this time, I'll be honest with myself. No more will I bribe an imaginary owl with imaginary gems to keep him saying that I'm on a 800+ days streak when that is not the case. Nor will I do any special exercises to placate him. TIME TO GROW UP.

I've had a full teaching load this semester, for the first time in a long time. Same in the fall - then, fortunately, back to more research time. Reflection: It's not just about how many hours teaching you've got - it's about the number of courses. Many small courses are harder than a few big ones.

I posted about how Alice and I was sinking in quicksand but I managed to get us out of there. Real quicksand is different (and less deadly) than the cartoon version. Even so: people say "wow, you're the first person I know who got in trouble with quicksand! As a child, I thought that was COMMON."
