"Another officer, frustrated, says, 'They don’t need a warrant.' Finally, one of them tells the truth. Due process is not a matter they’re concerned with. The deportation must proceed. Trying to stop it is the unlawful thing"—@billshaner.bsky.social in Worcester www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Let's be very clear: The Trump administration is not "defending" mifepristone against a legal challenge. They're pulling a calculated move that will allow them to restrict or ban abortion medication without pushback www.politico.com/news/2025/05...

yeah i am pretty much on the side of primary everyone

"The Trump administration has been worried schools would team up in resistance, because it is harder to negotiate with a united front, according to a source familiar with the government task force."

I love cycling. There used to be a significant Strava heatmap in Gaza, and a load of riders posting their rides up and down the coast road. Even the memory of ghosts: removed.

Here it is, the Bronze Age Fellowship of the Ring. You can get a print of this here - www.inprnt.com/gallery/gora... and you can support my little creative excursions here - patreon.com/gorangligovic

My ancestors crossed the Atlantic three centuries ago and I am an American in the exact same way as the infant child of undocumented immigrants born here yesterday. There is no difference between us, their right to this country no less than mine. We are entirely equal and I will accept nothing else.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs. (“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

Seems like you yearn for the good old days of “master bedrooms”. What other words do you, a self described ordinary person, wish you could say but no longer can? Go ahead, I’ll listen. Sounds like you might have a big list.

Members of Congress should never be allowed to trade stocks. Period.

When you look at the list of institutions they want to defund: libraries, museums, the Smithsonian, public schools, PBS, NPR, archives, you can clearly see that the real threat to an authoritarian regime is an informed and educated public

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933. I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

In a heathy democracy, the WHCA would fight this by boycotting all WH and travel events until the old system was restored. But they’re going to roll over and do whatever it takes to maintain “access” so they can be lied to in comfort

This was always about cutting the federal government so the tax cuts for the very wealthy don’t expire. This was never about “efficacy.”

lol it's been about a month and what have we learned? - Everyone leading the effort is a scammer - Federal agencies and workers are priceless - They definitely love the evil guy with the mustache - The guy people elected isn't in charge - And the only people who can stop this are THE PEOPLE

"Hochul is dithering about whether to use her powers. AOC, in contrast, exercised her 1st Amendment rights to inform her constituents about their 4th Amendment rights. In doing so, she showed that the administration is tyrannical. She also showed that it’s weak — if you’re willing to confront it."

Tomorrow in the NYT: Nothing emphasizes the elderly and out-of-touch character of Democratic Party leadership than their reluctance to allow a new generation of white nationalist 19-year-olds to have access to everyone's tax records

New—The Food & Drug Administration (FDA), an agency that falls under RFK Jr.’s purview, just mass fired probationary employees via an email reviewed by me. They’re citing performance issues as the reason, even for employees who had great performance reviews. Don’t know how many people affected yet.

‘You Can’t Let This Happen,’ Says Fundraising Email From Sitting U.S. Congressperson

This is like a bank robber getting to fire the cops and disable the alarms just before he strolls into the bank lobby.

feels kind of quaint at this point

This is a room where we turn very modest salaries and budgets (and lots of coffee) into new knowledge, life-saving innovations, and technology that feeds business growth. It's literally the loom that spins hay into gold but these numpties are suddenly worried about the cost of hay.

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic. globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

If you are a federal worker being offered a buyout, I would advise against taking it. Of course, this is a personal decision for everyone and it’s your choice. But these offers are a rush job. The legality is questionable and this admin does not keep to its word. They aren’t firing for a reason.

remember stuff like this when they tell you that diversity means a lowering of standards

You’ll notice nowhere in these examples do I use ICE as a descriptor. That’s on purpose! Instead of *assuming* that something is ICE, say exactly *what* you’re seeing. There’s several different types of ICE & ICE-affiliated patches/badges/visuals — it can be confusing. “Keep it simple, stupid!”

What a ridiculous figure Robert Eggers is, making a series of beautiful, confrontationally uncompromising films about subjects in which he is deeply interested. Let's get him

There’s nothing like running into your favorite creatives to remind you why the world is good.

🧵 👋 I'm a political scientist who wrote a book about the recent collapse of two democracies (Egypt & Tunisia). Given the anxieties of today, let me present a 🧵 with thoughts & resources for: WHAT TO DO IF YOUR DEMOCRACY COLLAPSES:

I’m just going to say that AOC is the acting leader of the Democratic Party until someone proves otherwise. At least insofar as she is responding to the moment with leadership.

"oh ho, but just last year you said running people over with with a big steamroller was wrong!” I exclaim delightedly as my enemy fatally runs me over with a big steamroller. it seems I have won this battle of wits

Neumorphism was one of the most confounding, masturbatory, user-hostile aesthetic trends to crawl out of design Twitter, and I'm glad its basically dead. scribe.rip/the-rise-and...

all art is made from spite or horniness, and a computer cannot be spiteful or horny, so a computer should never make art
