Happy to say that my 2nd PhD paper is finally out in @cp-immunity.bsky.social!! One more to go! Thread coming later today!

NIH funding to HMS, including for ImmGen, has been terminated. This threatens tools used by 10,000+ immunologists globally. Please email support for ImmGen’s value to you to Immgen(at)gmail.com, your Senator (US), or US Embassy (abroad). Thanks The ImmGen Team #immgen #supportScience #NIHfunding

We are also raising money to support undergrads at UCSF this summer! Help me, @neuronush.bsky.social and @quexarce.bsky.social buy ice cream and pizza for our little community of undergraduate researchers! 20% of sales for the rest of the month will go towards our programs!!!

Zhang, Celis-Gutierrez, Malissen, Malissen et al. @ciml.bsky.social‬ demonstrate that the expression of a mutated CARMIL2 protein in CD28-deficient mice induces most of the developmental and functional consequences known to result from CD28 costimulation rupress.org/jem/article/...

I always love commencement time. So much to celebrate and we get to wear our wizard robes! Congratulations to all the graduates! 👏 🤩

Was happy to provide a little excerpt, along with others, about the recent @hhmi.org Hanna Grey decision last week as an applicant and a former Gilliam Fellow that knows how important these fellowships are for early career scientists with limited resources.

Inhibition of IL2Rβ-dependent STAT5 activity supports T-cell stemness and augments antitumor efficacy of CD8+ T cells by preventing T-cell exhaustion www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

I honestly feel incredibly aggrieved for those like me who learned they are losing their NIH funding, but also for everyone who gave their all to their application only for it to be dismissed and not even given the time of day.

Word on the street is that HHMI is ending its highly impactful Hanna Gray Fellows Program. If true, its another extremely disappointing capitulation by our leading biomedical philanthropy www.hhmi.org/programs/han...

Heartbroken to hear that the @hhmi.org Hanna Grey fellowship competition is being cancelled this year. I poured so much work and creativity into this app and am very grateful for everyone who helped me revise. It is such a difficult time to be a young scientist.

Deeply disappointed in HHMI today. Others and I worked hard to submit these applications and to have them be pulled months after their submission, super disheartening…

To reduce the potential for immunogenicity, Shukla et al. screened a library of fully human anti-CD19 scFvs for expression, functionality, and tonic signaling. bit.ly/4j7Vw66

Our latest research is now available as a pre-print at BioRxiv. We show that the immune checkpoint receptor TIGIT cannot signal in T cells without simultaneous TCR stimulation. #ImmunoSky www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

More outstanding work from the @santoshvardhana.bsky.social lab, second preprint dropped this week! Take time to read the bluetorial, including brilliant application of #clickchemistry 👏

New lab preprint! Unveiling the Molecular Architecture of T Cells and Immune Synapses with Cryo-Expansion Microscopy (Cryo-ExM). A fantastic collaboration with Dr. Benita Wolf. Congratulations to all authors, especially Florent Lemaitre, for leading this amazing work! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Love to see a story from start to finish! Great job Alex!! 🙂

Excited to share our latest review! We explore how imaging advances understanding of antigen processing and presentation in cancer, key processes shaping T cell responses and immunotherapy outcomes. We highlight imaging tools, biomarkers, and challenges for clinical translation.

#Preprint alert! Kevin Chen, a brilliant @mskcancercenter.bsky.social GSK graduate student and NCI F99/K00 awardee, identifies a novel, post-transcriptional checkpoint on intratumoral T cell function: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

1/ A long standing paradox in my mind (from always seeing immune "strength" or reactivity drawn as a spectrum from immunodeficiency to autoimmunity) was resolved this year at #AAI #Immunology2025. WHY do SO many people have both simultaneously? Each infection brings risk of developing autoimmunity!!

Our team (hsph.harvard.edu/research/ube...) is excited to have contributed to the intranodal in vivo testing of the remarkable new compound, Fentomycin-1. Congrats to team Rodriguez et al. for the implications of this work in targeting ferroptosis in cancer. Check it out here!

Excited to see this out in @science.org today!! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Curious what your favorite gene might do in T cells? We made #FITdb to enable an intuitive integrated view of functional requirements of various human and mouse T cell types across diverse contexts. Want to contribute? reach out! feedback welcomed. Happy exploring! @lji.org

Reminder: The 1st FASEB #Ferroptosis Meeting is this summer! Spectacular speaker lineup + short talks selected from submitted abstracts. It is going to be awesome! Trainees, newcomers & all interested are welcome! 📅 Abstract deadline: June 1, 2025. shorturl.at/QA6T1

We think of Tregs having no PI3K/Akt/mTOR activation or glycolytic switch after CD3/CD28 stimulation. However, TNFR2 costimulation actually induces glycolytic flux via mTORC1, contributing to their suppressive function and stability. www.nature.com/articles/s42... De Kivit et al 2020 🧪⑂

genomebiology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.... Quite an indictment of some of the current single cell "virtual cell" foundation models. Even for the relatively mundane applications, cell labeling, batch correction etc, they are poor compared to much simpler & cheaper methods.
