I feel like the pandemic happened and people missed the insanely cool Citizen DJ project at the LOC? citizen-dj.labs.loc.gov

A fun game I like to play— Every time someone asks about "AI" in our schools... just say "private equity" instead How are our students learning with private equity? How can we better prepare our students for the age of private equity? How is private equity reshaping the workplace? How is private e

This essay is fun because it gets both history & AI really wrong www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/m...

One of the most mind blowing pieces of academic research I've read in a long time. Colin Powell's PowerPoint at the UN - one of the most infamous events this century - basically doesn't exist in any real stable way?? IMO required reading for anyone doing historical research in the this century.

Very excited to have this article in Internet Histories with @tjowens.bsky.social and Jonah Estess! In the article, we study Colin Powell’s PowerPoint presentation to the UN Security Council and trace the PowerPoint through web archives

@jewonwoo.bsky.social & I are co-editing a special issue of Reviews in DH on teaching #digitalhumanities in community colleges! Favorite DH projects related to this topic that we should feature? Please send them our way! #DH #ReviewsinDH

Grateful to be able to thank NEH-ODH staff in a public setting during #ACH2025 and recognize their immeasurable contributions to the DH field. I said in my talk that I hate how this feels like a eulogy, but I'm also glad we have the opportunity to share in a moment of community grief.

My career is deeply indebted to the @neh-odh.bsky.social . They supported the kind of interdisciplinary projects that colleagues weren’t ready to support or credit. They sent the message that technology and the humanities mattered. They pushed research to be more innovative. For pennies!

"I hate that this sounds like a eulogy." [email protected] on how NEH is "an agency that really believes in the promise of our field." And Sam wraps with a promise and a call to be sand in the gears of the anti-fascist machine. May we all be sand. #ACH2025

Now up #16A: Special Session: "What the NEH ODH Has Inspired". Over 50 people here to testify to the incredible work of @neh-odh.bsky.social . Grateful to the incredible civil workers who were committed to the public good and cutting-edge research. Their impact far outweighed their small budget.

Join us -- I'll be giving a brief talk about what the @neh-odh.bsky.social has meant to me over the years. And we've already got a Triangle of Doom sighting!!! #IYKYK

@jimccasey1.bsky.social kicking off Session 16A: Special Session: "What the NEH ODH Has Inspired" celebrating the important and meaningful work of the @neh-odh.bsky.social #ACH2025

This #ACH2025 morning (Pacific Time): "What the NEH ODH Has Inspired". @jimccasey1.bsky.social has already made me cry. @altnehgov.altgov.info was essential for me as a professional, for so many of us. My career, the friendships I hold so dear, my work -- I can never express enough gratitude.

Friendly reminder that the soft launch of these authoritarian tactics in contemporary times* happened in 2000s Detroit, Flint, New Orleans, and elsewhere. What Noem is talking about in California's fast tracking what they've been doing for a while. * - see Wilmington, NC 1898 & elsewhere.

Just getting started now with - "Digital Blackness: Collective Care, Community & Co-Creation Through the Colored Conventions Project, Douglass Day, and Carceral Algorithms" With Deja Workman, Eden Mekonen, and Denise Burgher! at the @ach.bsky.social virtual conference. Come through! #BlackDH

We've still got space on the lineup if anyone at #ACH2025 wants to share your stories/ideas

Did your NEH proposal or project funding get killed off? Please share it at this week's @ach.bsky.social virtual conference! Testify to the impact! Share what you had started! Share what you hoped & dreamed! Open to all 👇 docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... Help us spread the word?

📣Tune in to the “Digital Blackness” panel at #ACH2025 today (06/11) at 7p ET!📣 Panel will feature presentations from #DigBlk’s @dejaworkman.bsky.social, @weygudey.bsky.social‬, & @dburgher.bsky.social, and chaired by @jimccasey1.bsky.social‬. Register at ach2025.ach.org/en/

The NEH has been a singular force for bringing people together. In this moment of hate, fear and isolation, the NEH helped us learn about our past and about each other. Today we are losing almost all of the NEH public servants. We are all in their debt. A national shame. A profound cultural loss.

I believe that today, June 10, is the day that the RIF'd NEH @nehgov.bsky.social employees officially separate from the government. What a complete (and completely unnecessary) loss for us all. And what a betrayal of their service to us. Sending gratitude to all public servants this morning.

We've been planning at @digblk.bsky.social. More to come. But for now — We need to say more about the specific people & places hurt by the AI industry. We need to ask: why can Musk & Co put the world's largest data center into South Memphis Black neighborhoods? wreg.com/news/local/x...

Re-upping since the @ach.bsky.social program is out and available now at - ach2025.ach.org/en/ If you'll be at the virtual conference and were impacted by the NEH/ODH closure please consider giving a lightning talk about it!

It's a @digblk.bsky.social x @scholarslab.bsky.social joint! Did the illegal closure of the NEH impact your work? Come share at the ACH conference next week. Then let's think together about what comes next.

I’ve told the story many times. Now @katemasur.bsky.social and I have filed it in federal court: Free Black Americans were first to recognize BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP. When denied it, they fought to secure it. They show us what the 14th Amendment meant and what it meant to live without it.

Historian @marthasjones.bsky.social & @katemasur.bsky.social, a member of the Historians Council on the Constitution, filed a brief against the birthright citizenship executive order. History contradicts the administration's claim that the 14th Amendment applies only to “newly freed slaves.”

What an honor to celebrate the amazingly rich and generous career of @alanyliu.bsky.social today. Impossible to imagine what the digital humanities, the public humanities, and e-lit fields would be without the breadth and depth of his contributions.

🙌🏽 🙌🏽 to #DreamLab2025 crew who jumped in the deep end w/ me to experiment crowdsourcing the migration of @ccp-org.bsky.social exhibits to out-of-box WordPress template w/ care, curiosity & determination! Completed 6 exhibits in 9 hours (avg 11 pgs/hr) ➕documentation! 🎉

Some people are total suckers for weddings. I'm a total sucker for dissertation defenses. Truly one of our greatest customs, every single damn time. Watching a defense right now that is so deeply human & utterly brilliant. Just... this is why we do this work.

At the request of @shannonmattern.bsky.social, here is a fun panel I was on last week my good friends and colleagues Steven Booth and Savannah Woods of @afrocharities.bsky.social I ran home from the New Haven train and logged in about 5 before showtime! www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sLF...

Such a great kicker "The silent fourth memoir here is the unwritten book that tells the story of the rest of you who labored meanwhile, and what publisher would buy that?"

How lucky am I to get to work not only with @jimccasey1.bsky.social but now—finally officially—with @profdancy.bsky.social, and the whole generation of students and projects we get to learn from and with. 🤩🙏🏾🔥

We’ve been planning this and waiting to announce for a minute! Excited to be officially joining the community as a co-director!

Beyond excited that Chris Dancy is becoming new co-director of the CBDR! All kinds of big ideas already in the works!

We are excited to share that Dr. Chris Dancy, Associate Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and African American Studies, is joining the #DigBlk leadership team as its new co-director! digblk.psu.edu/2025/05/12/w...

I wrote a little bit about the Library of Congress - a place I care about deeply - given today's news: bcgl.substack.com/p/the-disman...

Dr. Hayden has been such a transformative and inspiring Librarian for the past decade. If you haven't had the privilege to spend time with LC staff, you may not realize what a sea change she brought to our national library. One of the all-time greats. A huge loss for millions and millions.

we must destroy ChatGPT

"The Colored Conventions stood for freedom and democracy"– a sentence which I just wrote, grimaced over, and quickly deleted. Ugh. The mind games. This is madness.

Why not engage in radical acts of false hope (grant writing rn)?

Sovereignty and Journalism going neck and neck is basically the argument of my book in progress. I knew it!

Gotta put money on Journalism & Publisher, right?
