In the words of Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it’s done. My friends, it is done. And you are the ones who did it. I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York City.

Summit Avenue 1902, before it was widened for cars. If the Save Our Summit group authentically cared about historic preservation and neighborhood character, they would be strongly advocating for a return to this. Unfortunately, they can't admit to that because all they really want is parking.

This median sign (between a general traffic lane & protected bikelane) has been hit *at least* a dozen times since it was installed 2.5 years ago. What does that tell you about the safety of this intersection - for peds, bicyclists and drivers?

Our streets should look like this more often.

china’s investment in electric is leaving us in the dust. they did exactly what the US could have: make it more attractive to buy electric than not, fund infrastructure, spur massive innovation BYD is leading the battery advancements we need: sodium instead of lithium! 20 min charging!

Biggest status quo bias in American transportation planning is just sorta accepting the massive highway scars in the center or cities.

Flailing banked in three. It’s over. Take the starters out and be better in game two.

Umm…what is happening with the Timberwolves? I’ve never seen anything like this.

"As the City of Minneapolis plans for a full reconstruction of 35th and 36th streets from Blaisdell Avenue to Chicago Avenue, it’s no overstatement: This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine a key corridor running through the south side."

Had my first bike commute this week since congestion pricing went into effect and the improvement is *insane*. Totally transformative.

Move Minnesota is requesting folks contact their MN legislators to have them vote against HF2438 which would cut transit and intercity rail funding movemnaction.org/take-action-...

Draft resolution up for discussion at the Minneapolis Bicycle Advisory Committee says they've "learned from credible sources that Hennepin County is inclined to advance a project design for Lyndale Avenue S that does not include a bikeway." Urging all parties to get their shit together.

"Time will tell if MnDOT changes course on bringing the boulevard back for study, or if the public and cities will have to force them to do so. As it sits, MnDOT is keeping the status quo and all the damage that entails for generations to come."

Never felt so good to pay an additional sales tax. Tell your state legislators and the governor they better not raid the transit sales tax money to pay for other stuff. www.startribune.com/new-mn-metro...

Senate Republicans would rather you didn’t find out they just voted to give the biggest banks billions in profits from overdraft fees that kick working people when they’re down. Disgraceful. Meanwhile, every Senate Democrat voted against it.

Back on my bullsh*t (transit).

This is the first of what I think are going to be A LOT of primary challenges along these lines.

140 years ago the Twin Cities actually had this, even before electric streetcars arrived. By 1900 there were 9 Class I railways and many stations. 3 different lines ran between the 2 downtowns. Travel time under steam power with stops? 24 minutes. This 1897 map even has cross-city bicycle routes.

Twice as many children die in car crashes than from all pediatric cancers combined. This does not count the long term health effects of breathing exhaust, brake and tire particles or the loss of physical activity and independence from living in a world hostile to traveling outside of a car.

I'd like to bring this video to your attention. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyco... It's doing pretty significant numbers for what it is, so while I understand sharing it won't make a difference for those knee-deep in the cult of personality, I'd say it has a better-than-average chance of resonating.

Today on Volts: you may have noticed that some climate/energy types (like me) have become obsessed with housing & urban land use lately. Why? Why are they climate issues? What's the connection? The great @mateosfo.bsky.social and I attempt to answer those questions.

Seen tonight on the fencing around the burned Minneapolis police third precinct police station: “Resist Choose Love” “There is nothing as stable as change” “Stay Loud” “Minnesota Will Not Comply”

The incompetence of Mpls Public Works--closing the only safe alternative to Stone Arch Bridge while Stone Arch is also closed--should immediately disqualify the city from any further "best city for bicyclists" awards.

“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”

"In each case, the key ingredients were a mix of historic streetcars, historic resources, neglect & love. Today, though, these are some of the most interesting & walkable places to find yourself in the Twin Cities. Next time you’re out & about, stop and admire the geometry of these unique streets."

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

The #MNleg can help us grow up not out by legalizing more homes throughout Minnesota. We have the space, we need to make it possible to say #YesToHomes.

I can’t believe the bikelane paint and flex posts didn’t protect this sign from a driver! If it’s good enough protection for people on bikes/scooters/wheelchairs, it should be good enough protection for signs, right? 🤔

Visionary changes can shift the course of what's possible in short order. The Midtown Greenway pre-2000 vs modern day. #BikeSky

Hey Minneapolis folks- please reach out to your CM to oppose this possible ordnance change on boulevards. Emily from our neighborhood runs Tiny Fields project that helps folks garden their boulevard.

If you were waiting for a white guy professional planner with a soothing monotone and a pile of research to convince you why I-94 and other urban interstates are a crime against public health, this one is for you. https://youtu.be/ohoEW7qggII?si=_Arv4-VV57i8vCGY

New evidence that reducing cars is good for business: In London, retail spending was stronger after neighborhoods were added to the Urban Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ). Spending was also higher than in areas nearby but outside the ULEZ. www.centreforcities.org/blog/ulez-ex...

Nothing but my deepest respect to 5000 Steiner street, an ORIGINAL baddie who NEVER gave a damn about “respecting neighborhood scale” and is STILL doing what the other girls aren’t. She IS the blueprint.

Rethinking I-94
