(Sighs so deeply all the pilot lights in the neighborhood go out)

IDF soldiers have now themselves admitted they have been ordered to murder aid-seekers in Gaza. Truly an atrocity built on atrocity. www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

Deadline: 72 hours

This is very good, go listen to it

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.

Pretending to be a police officer has never been easier. Credit where it’s due: it is really good to see this article in today’s @startribune.bsky.social It’s a crucial bit of context that I was thinking about a lot over the weekend www.startribune.com/pretending-t...

Happy Father’s Day to all who celebrate

Twins doing the greatest Father's Day service of all: giving all the Minnesota dads a chance to text their friends "burn it all down, this team's done"

NYT: State Patrol “urged people not to attend political protests on Saturday” but “scores of people” showed up at the Capitol. Scores! (Pic from St Paul Pioneer-Press)

With the tragic assassination of a Minnesota Democratic leader, I’m going to underline this point again.

There is a Thai restaurant near me that has "curry puffs" on the menu. If you call ask for curry puffs, they say "sorry, no curry puffs today" as if they will be there tomorrow. The same answer for 25 years. It's now performance art. I think about this all the time.

Not sure if this has been posted on the MSP feed before, but Bravo sir, bravo....

I'll be at the MN Capitol. See you there.

And how outrageous it is for the troops to cheer as if they are indeed his personal army.

Give the photographer the Pulitzer Prize

Hello. I live in Los Angeles. The president is lying.

Looking forward to the parade in Red State Square

As someone who has been in the higher ed game a long time now, I can tell you that there are times when it's hard to explain to students what we mean when we say things like "dialectics" and "overdetermination." But then there are other moments when everyone's just like ... oh yeah that makes sense.

I worry uni leaders will use post-2008 strategy of distributing cuts out to units equally b/c superficially it's "fair." But strategy assumes current distribution of resources is optimal, all units equally critical to core mission, & all units can survive a large % cut. Each assumption is suspect.

There are now daily outrages that would have been era-defining blunders in earlier moments. Remember the outrage of the Reagan's Bitburg speech? The Ramones wrote a whole protest song about it! Now, that's just another petty, stupid day.

The child in this trustee’s scenario? Faculty. Who submitted their tenure files for consideration in accordance with the terms of their employment. Both sides have a responsibility in that contract, one to submit and one to review. I hope everyone really hears this.

My favorite discovery of the week…. #vinyl

UNC-Chapel Hill hasn't granted tenure to any faculty outside Health Sciences all year. Faculty are in limbo. The BoT is simply refusing to consider the cases put forward. It's clear the board is testing the waters to see if they can get away with what is essentially a pocket veto on faculty tenure.

my most Gen X coded belief is that cities and the culture at large suffer profoundly for the near-complete death of alt-weeklies

Surely this is the end of the mid season friendlies. This is insane

I firmly believe we can culturally make it *incredibly fucking embarrassing* to admit you asked ChatGPT something because actually using your brain to find real information was just too hard

reminder that three democratic congress members, who should not have run for reelection last year because the actuarial odds were against them, have died of cancer this year — leaving vacant seats and giving the Rs the margin they needed for this god-awful calamity of a bill
