Happy March 1,915th, 2020.

🎵Then I look at you And the world’s all right with me 🎵 Can we take a moment to appreciate the #flugelhorn?

Forget the “car test.” How well does your mix hold up in the “Dolphin Cruise Test”? I might write a full explanation of this on the blog, later, but it just means checking the mix in a noisy environment, with the low end drowned out, to hear the most important elements (for example, vocal & snare).

Good day! Thoughts on the new music creator app (“Smash”) planned by Kesha? (I finally taught myself to stop spelling it Ke$ha. Please clap.) And yeah, I signed up. www.wired.com/story/kesha-...

So it begins.

Branching out into a couple of different directions, musically, and it’s exciting! What’s genre, anyway?

It’s done! The weekend run of The Last Five Years wrapped with today’s matinee. It was a shadow-interpreted production with ASL interpreters alongside the two actors on stage. Very cool! And we had a great orchestra, with today’s performance being the tightest one. Grooving.

Excited to be part of this very special production!

More calendar updates! THE LAST FIVE YEARS is this coming weekend! Six-string fretless bass will be in full force… www.joelance.us/calendar

I’ll say what I say when it’s going the other way: today is not the day to look at your 401k.

Understatement of the day (which is not a criticism of the great @hcrichardson.bsky.social, just an observation of how absurd things are): "The administration appears not to be able to attract the caliber of federal officials to which Americans have become accustomed."

My dad has been gone for 21 years now, and aside from how appalled he would be at [broad gestures] he would be so thrilled to see the current state of #bluegrass, with Billy and Molly and Shadowgrass and too many other acts to name, but real pickers playing the old songs and some good new ones.

Well it was postponed from Friday due to severe weather, but we finally got to perform SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts tonight. Give it up for the sophomore who music directed and played that JRB piano part! Great kid. Good hang, excellent music. Bass.

Going to pick up some new shoes today. I can’t wait. I-I-I can’t wait! Get it? Nu Shooz, “I Can’t Wait”…it’s OK, I’ll go back on mute now

Ha, those nerds in the orchestra for HAMILTON worked Star Wars themes into the exit music! #Maythe4th #StarWarsDay #Hamilton #pitorchestra

Happy Cinco de Cuatro to all those who celebrate! #ArrestedDevelopment #Bluths

Updated the calendar after tonight’s performance was postponed due to severe weather. We’ll be back on Monday. www.joelance.us/calendar

Has it only been a…hundred days? Feels like 100 weeks, at least. This is like COVID all over again. In other words, it’s March Eleventy-thousand twenty-eight, 2020.

First rehearsal with cast & orchestra for SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD went well. A couple more nights to fine-tune, and then it's on, for *one night only*, at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, Friday, May 2, 2025. Directed by Cody Keown. Music director: a high school sophomore! Great kid.

I guess it’s prom season. To honor that, here’s a lil #retrowave demo I made called “Outside the Prom.” on.soundcloud.com/F8riGEueyRDB...

I think I saw a Baltimore Oriole (the bird, not the Cal Ripken Jr) by the Missionary Ridge tunnel on the McCallie school grounds. I’m trying to figure out if it was a different bird. There is one that I can’t remember the name of that it might’ve been. Oh to be eleven again and know these things.

Get well soon, Carlos Santana.

Guitarists: I have some gear for sale. More to come, but here's what is out there now: www.sweetwater.com/used/storefr... Check back later, as I will be adding a pedalboard or two, some more effects, and some guitars. #newgearday #ngd #musicgear

Not me crying while/after reading Heather's post. Emotions are raw and easily triggered these days, I guess. And I just realized that I dreamed last night about finding, in my own network, people who would stand with me against tyranny—some of them as a surprise. Will you stand with me? With us? 🇺🇸

Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. May his memory remind us all to resist the tyranny forming in our government.

Playing bass for a couple of Jason Robert Brown shows is gonna get me through the next few weeks. One night only, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD at Center for the Creative Arts, May 2nd. Then come see THE LAST FIVE YEARS at Chatt State, with shadow ASL interpreters mirroring the cast, the 16th-18th of May

When I watched and loved the movie BRAZIL those many years ago, it was not with the intention to someday live in the film. Thanks, but no thanks.

Night one of NEWSIES is in the books. I got a “blast from the past” surprise from one of the audience members, whose son used to play in the pit with me there, years ago. Two more shows to go.

21 years ago today, my dad passed on. I’m thinking of recording a version of “Worried Man Blues.” I remember him playing and singing it when I was a kid. Also, #FuckCancer

Pilot puts plane into a nosedive, pulls out at the last minute, saunters back into the cabin looking for high fives from the vomit covered passengers.

Chattanooga! The one and only @thetraecrowder.bsky.social is at The Signal on Saturday night. I can’t go because I have a show to play. But some of my family and friends are going, and so should you. As Trae would say, “Love y’all.” #CHA #Chattanooga

This is Dogwood Winter, right? #CHAwx #TNwx

Thank goodness we finally have an administration with the courage and resolve to take on Big Penguin.

Friendly reminder to avoid looking at your 401k.

22 weeks apart.

We simply had to intentionally destroy the world’s strongest economy while dismantling our scientific and educational infrastructure to ensure that a team with a trans girl would never finish second place in the Mountain West volleyball standings again

Val Kilmer. Celebrity deaths are not my usual posting fare, but this one is particularly indicative of my own mortality. The star of REAL GENIUS and TOP SECRET was 65 and has passed? Heavy. Peace and comfort to all who knew and loved him.

Hey hey, new single "Tye" is out! It's an instrumental piece. tidal.com/browse/album...
