Every time I hear Big Orange whine about how other trading nations have been “very unfair” to the U.S., I can’t help but laugh at how mighty Thailand (36% tariffs) and strong Cambodia (49%) fatally injured little USA, the biggest and most powerful economy on the planet.

White House says there’s no way to bring back to the U.S. that El Salvadoran they deported in error. This Canadian is old enough to to remember when the U.S. would bring in carrier groups to persuade other countries to return people. This time, not even a sternly worded diplomatic note? Really?

Trump often complains that the U.S. underwrites much of the cost of defending Canada, and that’s not entirely untrue. But has it ever occurred to him that if a foe attacks Canada, the U.S. is right next door and within easy reach of that foe. Defending Canada is in the American self-interest.

It seems like just yesterday when my two grandsons were little kids. Now the eldest will enter law school in the fall and the youngest just got a union job with the city. As a result, I can now say to people either, “take it up with my grandson the lawyer” or “speak to my grandson the Teamster.”
