#morningcoffeelisten Tony Toni Toné’s 1996 album House of Music. Mindful of tradition while original, the band explores young adulthood, romance & responsibility in these funky, smooth, fun, songs, elevated by silky, effortless singing. Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen43 #nowplaying

#morningcoffeelisten INXS’s 1990 album X. By their 7th album the band were masters of their craft & it shows on this compelling, danceable collection of bangers & ballads. Michael Hutchence's bluesy, swaggering singing was never better. Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen42 #nowplaying

#morningcoffeelisten Hem’s 2002 album Rabbit Songs. Crystalline, emotive singing, evocative, poetic lyrics, sometimes sparse, sometimes lush arrangements make these songs of devotion, love, & yearning glisten timelessly. Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen41 #nowplaying

We thought the robots would take over because they were better than us at everything. Nope. They're much worse than us at everything & they'll take over thanks to the greed & shortsightedness of a handful of socially-inept Silicon Valley billionaires & a geriatric Congress who don't understand tech.

If a human journalist did this they'd be so fired, so fast, and unemployable, industry-wide, but the media is totally going to use LLMs for this bs again & again & again until we all get tired of being irritated by it & just accept that articles suck & are filled with slop as a general rule.

Every time someone brings up Biden's decline I think about how he was getting old, fighting cancer & still Presidenting better than any President in my lifetime. Old, sick, falling up stairs & still running circles around his peers.

#morningcoffeelisten Wilco’s 2004 album A Ghost Is Born. Dynamic, shapeshifting compositions that are also warm, catchy tunes with oblique memorable lyrics, sweetly sung, examining both inner turmoil & middle-aged revelation & joy. Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen40 #nowplaying

#morningcoffeelisten Bill Frisell’s 2020 album Valentine. Lyrical, inventive, gentle interplay, tightly interlocked & playfully loose, between three masters of their instruments. Simultaneously adventurous & contemplative. Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen39 #nowplaying

Been thinking about the descriptor "spoken word poet" and I think my new bio will henceforth be: John Paul Davis is a written word poet.

Lovely interview in Broadway World with myself & the incredibly smart & talented Supriya Ganesh about our roles in The Old Globe's currently-running production of Deepak Kumar's gorgeous play House of India. www.broadwayworld.com/san-diego/ar...

#morningcoffeelisten Jeff Buckley’s 1994 album Grace. Buckley's versatile, shapeshifting, aching singing & dexterous, stirring guitar playing elevate these gorgeously-written tunes of longing to emotional & spiritual transcendence. Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen38 #nowplaying

I've been rewatching Star Trek Voyager, which I hadn't seen since it originally aired & am thoroughly enjoying it. At the same time the writers were weird about certain things enough to distract me: impulse speeds, Tuvok's time in Starfleet, & the implications of replicator/hologram/transporter tech

#morningcoffeelisten Lyle Lovett’s 1996 album The Road To Ensenada. Infectious melodies & a swinging, nimble, boisterous band imbue these lean, expertly-crafted songs of losing love & finding oneself with joy in home, & the glittering world Listen: https://johnpauldavis.org/url/listen37 #nowplaying

I am never, ever, going to use the word "skeet" to refer to a post on Blue Sky. It is not going to happen. Just search it in Urban Dictionary. Eww.
