🚨 To all #microclimate aficionados, this is a major update of the #SoilTemp initiative which has just metamorphosed into the beautiful #MEB network for #microclimate #ecology & #biogeography #network The #SoilTemp initiative 🐛 turns to #MEB network 🦋 ⬇️ Check it out ⬇️

The word is out officially, now: SoilTemp has finished its transformation into 'The MEB-network' - a fully-fledged research network that goes far beyond just being a database. And boy, does that make me proud! Let me show you all the ways you can get involved here: the3dlab.org/2025/05/31/s...

Global change reshuffles species communities: who could interact with whom? We introduce new ways to measure the capacity of species & communities to rewire interactions, which can be used to predict how ecological networks might adapt to changing conditions. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Where do #fish go and why? For many species, the answer remains unknown. A better understanding could have significant implications for #fisheries and #conservation. A PNAS News Feature: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... #ClimateChange #MarineBiology #GulfStream #Caribbean #Hawaii #ecology

Check out the press release for our recent paper on Species on the Move!

Remember the Costa Concordia? Its 2012 shipwreck devastated coralligenous reefs 👉 Our new study shows how active restoration helped revive the biodiversity & aesthetic value of these fragile ecosystems doi.org/10.1111/rec.... Full recovery takes time, but there’s hope 💙 beneath the surface! 🧪🌍🦑🦤

An iconic plants of the Californian chaparral: chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum, Rosaceae). It is a flammable plant that both resprouts & recruits (from the soil seed bank) after fire, as you can see here. Los Padres NP, California 🧪🌍🔥🌳🌿💚🪴 wildfire

This is amazing 🤩 Another evidence of the relevance of #microclimate on biotic responses ⬇️🌺 The mechanism of anther dehiscence triggered by humidity conditions delaying anther opening by postponing programmed cell death #PCD in specific anther tissues 🤯 Check the amazing videos ⬇️

Stomatal transpiration and rapid programmed cell death ☠️ triggered by lowered ambient humidity causes anther tissue collapse for effective pollen release ! Happy to be part of this great PNAS story with @kampova.bsky.social, Matyáš Fendrych, and @svosolsobe.bsky.social! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

The fantastic work of @kampova.bsky.social is finally out in PNAS: weather sensing and programmed cell death in anther dehiscence and opening. Cool science and awesome microscopy! @svosolsobe.bsky.social @handle.invalid @moritznowack.bsky.social

It's exciting to see our research paper being highlighted by @cp-oneearth.bsky.social on UN Biodiversity Day. Combining species locality data from scientific sources and social media can help identify biodiversity protection status and the most critical conservation areas. doi.org/10.1016/j.on...

Press release from UC Santa Cruz ⬇️ Species not only shift in space (lat., long. & elev. shifts) & time (phenological adjustments) but also in place (e.g., vertically) along microclimatic clines 🦎 @afredston.bsky.social @ucsantacruz.bsky.social @cp-trendsecolevo.bsky.social 🧪🌐 shorturl.at/wpHSe

Agissons. ⤵️

I had the opportunity to comment on @jonlen.bsky.social's new @science.org paper — It’s a brilliant piece of work — essential reading for anyone curious about biodiversity change and mountain ecosystems. Such a cool and important study! 🌿🕷️🦅🦌🏔️. shorturl.at/Fdrlo

This is important research, but comes with caveats for AoNZ. Limited data from islands, and no lizards included in study. The previous research below suggests the impacts may be slower in Southern Hemisphere, as well as less severe in wetter climates. www.sciencemediacentre.co.nz/2024/03/28/c...

We’ve long tracked species’ responses to climate change - upslope, northward, earlier. But most studies look in just one direction. In our **NEW PAPER**, we call for a paradigm shift: species move across multiple dimensions. Blog: the3dlab.org/2025/05/15/r...
