Developing a theory for challenges of large gamedev teams that I call "categories of knowing". It involves asking 3 questions about discreet facts on the project: 1) does X team member know it? 2) does X team member need to know it? 3) if X team member doesn't know, do they know they don't know?

Having now finished Avowed, overall I can't hold any of its flaws against it since it has so many things I love in games but so rarely get. I really came to love all the companions by the end.

A perk of being employed by a Montreal studio is I get St. Jean Baptiste Day off so I'm gonna use it to go to the museum and look at bugs as St. Jean Baptiste would want

i was aware Buzz Lightyear would be toy sized but i was not prepared for how small he actually is and whenever i see him run past i laugh myself into hysterics

I've never hammered the "order" button for something this fast in my life

I cashed Mads Mikkelsen out at a bookstore during the Hannibal days. He was buying a magazine about forensics and wearing a nice sweater.

In a world where enshitifcation makes all tech products and apps worse over time, the idea of "A new game machine that does everything the old one did but better, faster, and it isn't filled with AI" is a really compelling pitch. kotaku.com/switch-2-bet...

Breaking News: Brian Wilson has died

Me and my fellow creatives this week

Maybe the most visually beautiful shot ever in a movie. Could have packed it in right here, visuals-wise.

So I'm playing Cyberpunk on Switch 2 as if it were a cozy game, keeping a close eye on the daily cycle, and it works alarmingly well. Kinda hope they lean into the cyberpunk life sim element a little more in the second one.

seen some people complaining like "yet another Mass Effect wannabe" after the Expanse game announcement and like....I don't really think we actually got a surge of good Mass Effect-like games to the point where I got sick of them. Quite the opposite!

Good news, Switch 2 owners 👀

extremely tempted to let this be the push I need to finally do my corpo playthrough.

Finally got around to playing Expelled! and it's great. I really love this little accessible interactive fiction micro-genre that Inkle has carved out. What sticks out to me is the pacing and ability to get into a flow with the game, like a good improv where it keeps 'yes and'ing you.

Finished Old Skies. What a wonderful game. Really can't recommend it enough -- go buy this if you have even the slightest inclination. How often does a post-credits stinger moment actually bring a tear to your eye? store.steampowered.com/app/1346360/...

I feel this is a really common way for men of a certain age bracket to talk about movies/art because saying something is "good" or that you like it is almost too vulnerable within the context of male friendship. Growing up, movies were "fucked up!!" or "so crazy", not "good" or "amazing" or whatever

For the third year in a row, I'm attending the Toronto Bach Festival's Kaffeehaus performance, where they recreate the atmosphere of the 1700s Zimmerman's coffee house in Leipzig, with RH Thompson presiding over a theatrical and musical performance as Zimmerman himself.

Who is this red-bearded pirate man? 🤔 I could swear I've seen him somewhere before. Find out in Disney Dreamlight Valley's next developer update video June 4th!

A message from IFTF's president about this year's event (don't panic!):

Wow, Fantasy Life has the MOST going on. I'm so impressed by how many systems and ideas there are in this but how I never really feel overwhelmed.

The funniest fandom I've ever been part of is the 2000 reboot of The Fugitive starring Tim Daly. I realize now that I was the only 10-year-old boy on the drrichardkimble dot com message boards and everyone else was a middle aged woman thirsty for Tim Daly
