Yes! Jumping off a games post again to draw parallels. The stuff that breaks through in tv/film is almost always when the money people take a chance on a creator with a strong vision and unique take/POV and then, and this is key, DO NOT MESS WITH THEM! Copy the philosophy, not the thing itself.
