I know this is controversial but I don't think we need to pay anybody to assault senior citizens. We can defund this 100%.

a big day for police doing what they’re good at: rioting against peaceful protesters and letting killers escape

Turn out in Tyler, Texas has been way bigger than I expected.

I’m so proud of how quiet my feed is this afternoon.

This is what rule by the confidently ignorant looks like; sabotage stuff you don't understand and then discover it was actually doing vital work well at trivial cost

She is right. The Trump admin is literally doing this. They terminated humanitarian parole for hundreds of thousands of people who came here LEGALLY through a government program, and they are calling all those people "illegal aliens."

Not counting expected interactions (e.g. film screenings, fan conventions): standing in line with Elijah Wood at LAX. Also, less minor than utterly bizarre: being invited to L.A. for church and brunch with Disney actor Dean Jones and his wife.

This is a four alarm fire for democracy. The Homeland Security secretary is vowing to "liberate" Los Angeles with the U.S. military as a U.S. Senator is dragged away, tackled and handcuffed.

It's not even like this is more journalistically accurate and neutral than calling it lawless. NYT is apparently comfortable making a "neutral" judgment about what the military's role is, but not what the law says?

I … did not realize Thomas Massie had this much self-awareness in him

They call them invaders and insurrectionists so they can break the IN CASE OF INVASION AND INSURRECTION glass and use the vast and violent weaponry inside.

The fact that the State Department is planning to open an Office of Remigration didn't get even anywhere close to the attention it deserved. Remigration is explicitly a European far-right/neo-Nazi word that in Europe refers quite explicitly to ethnic cleansing beyond simply immigration enforcement.

real bummer finding out that literally everything was on the honor system this whole time

given that the State Department is planning for an office of remigration, i suspect it's not going to end with just banning legal immigration

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

The US record on protecting Afghans who helped our military in that war has been pretty weak to begin with, but now we are deporting them to a very credible risk of death. Why would any other allies on the ground work with the US military in the future?

I’ll be more impressed when Karen Bass tells Stephen Miller that she looks forward to his conviction at The Hague.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man the Trump administration acknowledged was wrongly deported to El Salvador, is on his way back to the US, ABC News reported Friday

Elon Musk is, very rightfully, one of the least popular people in the country right now, especially among Democrats. He's also a ketamine-addled, lying, racist sociopath. A party struggling with its own popularity should probably not take that on?

This is a big day for couples that are one super online person and one normal

Today is a campaign ad against the GOP, billionaires, privatization of government services, and most men.

Obviously Jack's take is stratospherically deranged, but he also accidentally advocates here against electing "phallocentric", "high agency males" to positions of great power. W… welcome to the resistance, Jack?

this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake

Already saw at least one Dem Congressman making the same point about denaturalization and just begging, begging people not to descend to the level of calling for stripping the citizenship of people you don't like.

I don't really deal in "bests" but the opening of Inglorious is absolutely a film unto itself, which I have watched perhaps a dozen times on its own.

HAWLEY: Let's see the Trump chart. You don't think it's a little bit anomalous that Trump has so many more nationwide injunctions against him? KATE SHAW: A very plausible explanation you have to consider is that he's engaged in much more lawless activity than other presidents

again, this staggering idiot — this living monument to gross stupidity — is basically the intellectual guru of the sitting vice president

Pretty sure I know what it is.

A good opportunity for Democrats to drop their current message -- "We apologize for being Democrats" -- and pick up a new one: "We can have nice things."

"No one voted to deport moms" — yes they did. This is why Critical Race Theory needs to be taught to everyone. It was common for white people to have their "favorite" Black individuals they worked with or employed, while still supporting the Jim Crow system that oppressed Black people as a whole.

Pretty wild to make your entire case about how immigrants are lawless freeloaders, but having to go to their workplaces and court hearings to arrest them.

These people were following the law and went to check in with immigration like they are supposed to. This woman's immigration case was dismissed, which made her immediately undocumented. So ICE took her into custody. The air conditioning was off in the back of the truck. "I can't breathe."

There is an alternate timeline in which Republicans’ core belief is everybody has a God-given right to power their homes with free, abundant sunshine, and bulldozing any regulatory or HOA obstacle in the name of maximum solar power.
