I also drafted this for @enddbelfast.bsky.social. One thing EDB has been working on is tracking the response to paramilitary activity - which is non-existent. Recently acquired prosecution numbers + related charges for Aug ‘24 are really telling. enddeportationsbelfast.wordpress.com/2025/06/10/r...

The Democrats fired David Hogg for questioning precisely this. They have no desire to change. We’re all paying the price.

Really humbled on a daily basis to chair @soclawireland.bsky.social with the most incredible colleagues I could ask for. We drafted this statement this morning with regards to yesterday’s riot in Ballymena. Racist violence must be named for what it is, without disguise.

TODAY: GLAN, Sadaka and Al-Haq launch a multi-jurisdictional set of legal actions targeting #airbnb listings in Israel’s illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Find out more: www.glanlaw.org/palestine-ai...

Guess this explains why the US is one of the very few countries not to have accessed the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Reminder: Trump also fired all of the military's top lawyers - the Judge Advocates General - whose job is to draw up exactly these rules. www.military.com/daily-news/2...

Incredible photo from LA by local photographer Jamie Lee Taete.

An authorization he doesn’t have the power to grant. None of what is happening is legal, and Congressional silence is really loud.

The US doesn’t have the power to wrap a UNPKO mandate and I don’t see a scenario in which it would succeed in influencing states into agreeing. Israel has attacked UNIFIL on the ground and questioned Lebanon’s adherence to the 2006 ceasefire terms before.

Trump continues to make up legal powers and authority.

In all the Greta news let’s not forget that a MEP was aboard the Madleen. Israel arrested and detained the elected official of a transnational governing body attempting to deliver aid and this in international waters. Let’s contextualise.

Apologies for linking to a Meta website, but this man directly addressing the National Guard in LA is quite something. “You took an oath to the Constitution, not the fascist in the White House… you’re coming with weapons of war in our peaceful communities.” www.instagram.com/reel/DKr8Xcc...

We already had this convo in 2020, but once again, coming from NI: rubber bullets are high risk LLWs.

The LAPD never learns.

Newsom: "Arrest me. Let's just get it over with, tough guy. I don't give a damn ... Tom, arrest me. Let's go."

Also worth noting that I’ve heard conversations around RoE - this matters - and agreed.

Everything since November is a disproportionate response to a manufactured crisis in order to consolidate power.

Gavin Newsom’s politics aside, “we didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved” is an important line: it places the blame for violence squarely at the feet of the federal government, not protesters. Protest may be a qualified right, but remains one nonetheless because democracy requires dissent

Those are gubernatorial powers. Not legal.

Bill Kristol (!) putting the blame where the blame lies. Miller and Trump took the fight to LA, and to the country. Not the other way round.

This also shouldn’t be a CA problem. Miller, who couldn’t keep his own hair, says he will “take America back” - the goal will be to expand. Solidarity with California must be nationwide, and simultaneous. Law enforcement also has to make a decision as to what they will agree to enforce.

The Israeli army boarded the Freedom Flotilla and arrested Greta Thunberg and the rest of the Freedom Flotilla's crew

Immigrants *are* the American people. Cities *are* the American people. The coasts *are* America. There isn’t a separate area of the country where such displays of state violence are more desirable than others.

Noem has forgotten about states rights, it seems. The standoff continues between CA authorities, including the LA Mayor calling on residents to protest, and the Trump administration, currently still pondering sending Marines. This is the pivotal moment we’ve all known was going to happen.

There is no coverage of the Freedom Flotilla on news outlets, but the boat - carrying 12 nationals and registered in the UK - has had its communications intercepted and are at risk of being boarded by the IDF, without anyone knowing what will happen, or providing supervision.

FLAG: the SEIU is holding rapid response rallies to call for the release of David Huerta and an end to the ICE raids TOMORROW at multiple locations nationwide

It’s the number of celebrities and influencers sharing LA Rapid Response numbers and GI Rights Hotline and issuing calls to protect the community that I didn’t expect. The usual “maybe cave to law enforcement” isn’t happening. Unclear if Hegseth banked on that.

Donald Trump is actively thanking the National Guard “for their work in calming down the situation in Los Angeles” while the Mayor of LA denies the National Guard even arrived. This is, indeed, deranged www.theguardian.com/us-news/live... (there is a 25th Amendment)

Gathering of fascists in Moscow, Elon Musk's father in attendance

Homeland must feel really secure under those guys

Interestingly, that law allowing POTUS to supersede gubernatorial powers to send the National Guard has last been used in 1965, when Johnson sent troops to Alabama to protect civil rights protesters. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/u...

I have often used the “don’t Instagram your crimes” rule during KYR trainings. In general, don’t publicly announce: your intent to commit a crime, your participation in a crime, how you intend to carry out a crime. Some legitimate political activities can also be considered criminal.

Pete Hesgeth — who wants to rename the Navy ship that honors Medgar Evers, a WWII veteran who landed on Omaha Beach — is using that same beach for a photo op in which he promises we will “never forget” the veterans there. What an unbelievable asshole.

It’s nihilism to oppose police murdering black people, to demand basic economic prosperity in an era of wealth hoarding, to constrain the power of state agents licensed to kill, and to support the freedom and safety of Palestinians, said the Good Guy

Trans people are no longer able to serve in the US Armed Forces since yesterday. They have been asked to resign, with some predicting that administrative leave will be imposed next week. Here are the words of Colonel Bree Fram. www.facebook.com/share/1AsnmL...

Agree. Trump’s sanctions need a response. This would allow ICC judges to continue operating safely and independently, as demands the discharge of their mandate, shielded from unlawful interference with the international judiciary

Among other actions, the EU must protect the ICC through the Blocking Statute: finance.ec.europa.eu/eu-and-world... There can be no further delay: www.jurist.org/news/2025/04...

Our very own @drmelob.bsky.social knows what she sees, knows what this looks like, and know what the Genocide Convention says. A simple but necessary statement from the International Association of Genocide Scholars www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-...

The French counter-terrorism prosecutorial unit has formally launched an investigation for complicity to genocide in the blockade of humanitarian relief to Gaza www.liberation.fr/internationa...

The grandmother of two young French children killed in Gaza has filed a complaint with the dedicated crimes against humanity unit in France, against Israel, for murder, crimes against humanity and genocide. The FIDH might add to the complaint www.geo.fr/geopolitique...

I saw someone comment on the Trump / Musk breakup with “it’s like Kendrick v Drake, except they’re both Drake” and for a second I was grateful for the internet again
