In the midst of darkness Be the light In the midst of fear Be the calm In the midst of hate Be the love

i have a theory about finding your artistic voice, it goes like this. find a range of things you love very deeply. start copying what you like about those things. begin to see the patterns underneath that connect them to each other. use those ideas to explore new ground. be vulnerable and real. easy

let the energy run through you. know that you have much to receive as well as to give. the very dreams and wishes are seeking you, and you will be brought to each other, one by one. this is good news.

It was then incorporated into the Appalachian folk music derived from the British Isles, a predecessor of country music

Such a simple-looking subject, but US artist William J McCloskey makes it a study in the light falling on the fruit & wrapping, the intense colour of the oranges, the detail of the peel & paper, & the reflections on the tabletop (Wrapped Oranges, 1901) christies.com/en/lot/lot-6...

In Sufi thought: • Ego is the real tyrant. • External piety without inner transformation is falsehood. • Power divorced from love and justice is corruption. • The awakened heart resists both fear and flattery.

I published a new article today about Nezu Jinja in Tokyo, one of my favourite Shinto shrines. I've included a brief history, some information about the deities enshrined, lots of photos, and even some woodblock prints. I hope you enjoy it! open.substack.com/pub/curiouso... #FolkloreSunday #Shinto
