Advocates for a very light rail network for Galway city presented their case to Galway City Council’s strategic policy committee for Transport this week www.advertiser.ie/galway/artic...

Stage 3 of this year’s Rás Tailteann starts in the Joyce Country Western Lakes Geopark in Cong, Co Mayo and travels through a large part of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Geopark to Miltown Malbay in Co Clare. www.joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie www.burrengeopark.ie

Nobody in this residents group ever thanked me for the helpful information I provided in this thread :(

Ar rothar ó Pháirc na Ceapaí go dtí an Droim le cluiche Faoi 7 a n-imirt 🧵1/9

What a brilliant day at the launch of the Irish Cycling Campaign with Minister @darraghobrientd.bsky.social. This new identity isn't just about cycling, it's about transforming our communities into safer, more inclusive, more welcoming & connected places. Míle buíochas to our members & supporters.

An linn snámha i mBóthar na Trá plódaithe le rothair tráthnóna inniu. Tiocfaidh ár lána 💪🏻

Lovely evening to cycle to swimming in Salthill. One of these is not like the other 🎶

Here’s a nice hopscotch court. Camogie training by stealth. The school street has all kinds of knock-on positives. #SráidScoile

No space to be radical.

Cycling home yesterday we had to stop for milk. And we *had to stop* for a treat 🍦

Counted 160 bikes outside school this morning. There’s a spin around town for bike week today, this isn’t typical! But five years ago there was only space for 14 bikes here. #SráidScoile @galwaycycling.bsky.social @irishcycle.com

Couple of pics from a recent cycle from Galway to Paris. 1st day left my wallet in a shop in Cherbourg, didn't realise until I was 70km away so had to get the train back to collect it. And 150km before Paris a pedal arm broke off. These events mafe the trip 😄.

There is plenty of space here to make a well designed, accessible, forgiving active travel space so that thousands of young people could safely access their schools (and beach) between Knocknacarra and Salthill. For now, this is the hack for young children. Well, this or drive them.

This scenic route allows us skip busy roads. But there’s a danger here. If a child (or adult with dodgy brakes!) loses control they fly into a road with very fast traffic. It’s slow now because of congestion. But a forgiving road (re-) design would make bruises the penalty for mistakes. Not death.

Sure might as well log the home stretch from school. A day in the life.

For most people this is a dream holiday; for us it’s one possible school run. We are lucky in Galway in many ways. It’s not all dreamy though 🧵

Congrats to @ciarancannon.bsky.social - a passionate voice for all things cycling – on his new role as President of @cyclingireland.bsky.social. Here’s to stronger links between sport and everyday cycling for a better, safer cycling culture in Ireland!

Part of what makes this section of my commute so attractive is the ongoing maintenance. The surface is a joy to roll along 👏 good work @galwaycitycouncil.bsky.social @galwaycycling.bsky.social
