My first tubular water-dropwort! Nobody told me that it could be just a few cm tall. #wildflowerhour #aquaticplants

Overjoyed to see flowering rush thriving nearby in east Kent - #wildflowerhour #aquaticplants

Found the data on Dover's deluge last week: 6cm in Dover, with 5.3cm in 30 minutes. "Only" 5cm in Deal, but 10cm in Eastry!! 2025-06-13T21:15 0.1mm 2025-06-13T21:30 1.5 2025-06-13T21:45 971.3 2025-06-13T22:00 12.7 2025-06-13T22:15 1.5 2025-06-13T22:30 1.1 2025-06-13T22:45 0.7

Spot 2 birds in the photo. Many of the "putlog" holes at Winchelsea church are now accommodation for Swifts. Some are tailor made and others are just made with stone part obscuring the hole. Putlog holes are holes made in walls to receive the ends of beams, called putlogs, to support a scaffolding.

Bulrushes have flowers too - when gently flicked this one released clouds of pollen #wildflowerhour

The app’s graphic of the storm looks like a nest of money spiders.

Stopped off to visit the Wingham Elm (Ulmus x “Wingham”) developed with resistance to Dutch elm disease.

It must be summer then!

My first marbled whites of the year today, at Sandwich (the admirable Monks Wall reserve)- seems early

Don’t often see common bistort in the chalklands of east Kent. Here with two friends #wildflowerhour

This is a first for me - flowering-rush in a small pond in east Kent. What a stunning plant.

Blue fleabane on 1st June? Good grief #wildflowerhour

A brief stroll in Walmer beach put up 30+ painted ladies. Should be interesting tomorrow.

Four-spotted chaser - so furry!

In the words of the bard (or was it The Monkees?)…. …. here we come!

Yellow lupin naturalised on the golf links near Sandwich #wildflowerhour

A pleasure to find celery-leaved buttercup near home. #wildflowerhour

Another good afternoon around Worth Marshes, identifying sedges, listening to sedge warblers, and enjoying views of reed buntings and a white stork.

Scaly male-fern (or golden-scaled if you prefer) unfurling for #fernfriday

Is this yellow vetch Vivian lutea? Seen north of Canterbury #wildflowerhour

@allenross.bsky.social Good luck to Palace today, followed by an Estonian Eurovision win!

Rosy garlic having a good year on the Kent coast (almost none last year in the wet and cold) #wildflowerhour

Very few early spider-orchids flowering at Samphire Hoe, but this cheeky chappie made up for it.

Well done Dover Athletic, bounced back! A rollercoaster season but saved the best to the last games.

A large number of common gromwell plants have appeared where the farmer has cleared scrub - lovely new habitat. #wildflowerhour

Hard ferns in Blean Woods #fernfriday

Ravens nesting on a pylon in east Kent - chasing off any passing buzzards and crows.

I can imagine lots of amateur naturalists roaming the countryside at night .... I have already bought my UV torch..... @savebutterflies.bsky.social butterfly-conservation.org/news-and-blo...

Glorious day for a walk around Blean woods - wild service tree and golden saxifrage the highlights. As well as my first nightingale of the season. And all by bus 😃

Check out these pics from Warden Karen at Coombe Down. Cowslips now blooming in an area where mature scrub was cleared just over a year ago. It’s an example of how work can look destructive at first, but give nature time, and the results speak for themselves. This is why we do what we do!

An antithesis of a #tinyplant for #wildflowerhour - a spectacular cowslip, presumably affected by fasciation.

It’s really that simple: Trump only thinks in zero sum, with the winner getting to have their way. 🎁 Link: on.ft.com/42Ogwd0 Yuval Noah Harari: Trump’s world of rival fortresses
