Scratch a tankie and a fascist bleeds.

The reason certain types don't care about winning people over is because they are also authoritarians! They know their ideas can never win a popular majority and want to implement them by force.

Deep Blue is 30 years old and was capable of defeating chess grand champions. It could be housed in a single cabinet. ChatGPT spans untold data centers devouring massive amounts of electricity and it got its ass whipped by an 8 bit gaming console from the 1970s.

a dem racking up assad numbers in oklahoma (even in tulsa) is astonishing

This is a response to a tweet getting people involved in local politics. I am not saying this person is a fed, but also…

i figured this was the case

Particularly at this moment, people who come into my skyline to say “give up, you’re already under a dictatorship,” are going to get immediately blocked

the entire project is portraying immigrants as traitors while valorizing actual traitors

It’s that fucking airplane meme and I’m sorry but it’s a massive blind spot among a certain kind of person on the left. You only remember the protests that “won”. It’s common for protestors to eat shit and lose both short and long term.

There is a difference between acknowledging Palestinians lack state capacity to effectively govern and saying Palestinians shouldn't have a state. The below statement is the latter category. It's an argument for condemning both peoples to more generations of violence.

Gov. Newsom is asking for a restraining order on Trump/Hegseth's use of the military in Los Angeles, saying they are preparing to go on immigration raids with ICE. He wants a ruling within two hours. "They must be stopped immediately." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

One of the most dangerous things of the Internet did, and nobody wants to admit this, is convince people that they shouldn't have to pay for anything

There's a way to do this that reduces risk. That involves a political program that offers Palestinians an alternative to Hamas. Netanyahu, at every opportunity, refuses any discussion of a political program, because it undermines his goal of keeping Palestinians divided.

Goes to an overarching unwillingness to take responsibility

YouGov poll, just out: "Should ICE agents be required to wear uniforms while making arrests?" Yes: 68% No: 18

Seeing a thing go around about 75 democrats voted to "Praise mass deportation" but it's one paragraph at the end of a resolution condemning Boulder and other attacks. This is what you are mad at. One line about communication in law enforcement and one that expresses gratitude for LE.

And 44 very unfavorable versus 22 very favorable. Twice as many people really don't like Trump as really like him (not counting all the people who would have chosen the "absolutely despise" option if available). Trump is historically unpopular. His actions are those of a failing dictator.

Every time I see this discourse, there is a dichotomy between what people think "base" means, but it means people who *already* vote for Democrats. The quote post here is correct, and not the people who keep insisting "No, I'm the base, and they need to do everything I want to get my vote."

LIKE I SAID

Essential we hold two thoughts in our head at the same: There is no doubt the Trumpists want an authoritarian police state, and the situation is acutely dangerous. But being lawless does not make Trump omnipotent. Obscuring that distinction is an act of defeatism that only serves the regime.

As I have been arguing for months www.vox.com/politics/410...

Brand-new polling from YouGov out this AM finds Trump's actions re: LA underwater. Double-digit disapproval on sending in Marines. This should be a reality check for those people arguing the protests inherently help Trump bc his immigration approval # is positive. today.yougov.com/topics/polit...

The online left has this very strange idea that attacking *Barack Obama* is a good way to win influence inside the Democratic coalition

In case you're wondering, authoritarians use this strategy of escalation to manufacture crisis, provoke outrage, then use the reaction to justify repression. It’s not about restoring order, it's about creating a spectacle of chaos they can claim only they can control.

derek guy made a point of taking a very public stand on twitter that is directly causing the vice president to try to send the secret police to put him in a gulag and when i name search him currently here people are trying to milkshake duck him for saying that greencards are helpful

Two present votes condemning the antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado where a man lit on fire elderly Jews. The white nationalist and the Palestine one stater. Sounds about right.

the anti-waymo stuff is dumb as shit, sorry. i am 100% behind fully automating drivers away. there is no fundamental loss to the human condition or whatever if my uber driver is a robot

The Trump administration has dealt a sharp blow to work on H.I.V. vaccines, terminating a $258 million program whose work was instrumental to the search for a vaccine. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/h...

also, very good likelihood they pull them at day 29

see, the thing *i’m* genuinely worried about is that RFK will effectively ban vaccines

Yes...the number of years with a Democratic president and a liberal majority in the both chambers of Congress were pretty limited. 1933-1936, 1961-1966, and 1977-1980; the rest was dicey at best. (By the way...Can we criticize Carter yet?)

look, I'm not really even calling balls and strikes on the LA protests, but Dr. King saw teenagers get exploded by the Klan and still felt compelled to think about strategy, I'm sorry if that's lame to you

“Currently, there is no plan for where everyone is sleeping tonight,” the source said, adding that there was an urgent need to find more portable bathrooms and dumpsters for garbage.

I mean these people don't actually like immigrants or refugees, they like causing problems. If they actually like them, they would listen to them.

Man, I really didn't want to be right about this, but the data's there www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
