Letterboxd is an amazing application because it just allowed me to discover that Madonna was an executive producer on Agent Cody Banks (2003)

only interesting thing out of MOUNTAINHEAD was its ‘twist’—which doesn’t feel even feel impactful enough to be a narrative climax. those inclinations are what draw men like that into the tech industry in the first place

Feels like yet another Charlie Brown football moment, again with big tech playing center. Why are we always rolling up our sleeves to help these people??? AI trained on out-of-copyright anthropology books, what could go wrong? abcnews.go.com/Technology/w...

I was so adverse to cheating in school that I went thru 2 masters degrees using Zotero as only a PDF manager & thought that creating citations thru software was too automated to be acceptable :o turns out I just had really great teachers who taught us to cite by hand!

Another reason we wrote The AI Con was because the pariah status conferred on you for being an AI critic was crazy-making, and we wanted to show that, no, you're not alone.

heartbroken by this loss. Ed was a shining light & a joy to be around. still processing that he’s gone—we just did a program together last month. “In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are appreciated to the Nature Conservancy” 💜 www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/f...

what a loser!

common knowledge: library workers use systems that include technology shocking information to both insiders and outsiders: those systems are political in nature

building this Letterboxd list about technology. hoping to include films that interact with technology as an imaginative vehicle for communication, like #othernetworks, beyond demonstrating dystopia boxd.it/HQmEO

Walter Benjamin, 1940

world happening all the time and a beloved colleague passed away today. too much. too much!

as someone under 30 who has studied mass media, it has always felt like corporate media, as businesses, cared more about ad $$ + keeping status quo over independent discovery through reporting. but now it means truly staying in lockstep w/ the WH as a fundamental aspect of agenda setting for news.

advocated for this during a job talk today and it was well recieved 🫡

This is it. Some folks think they are always going to be on the “right side” of the camera, microphone, sensor, tracker…

I’m still getting used to playing on CDJ-3000s, lots of buttons and bright lights. The 2000s feel much smoother to me—but maybe a sign to go back to basics (learning vinyl).

it’s frustrating when movies about mass media, especially when they intend to transpose themselves over real-time events, fall short boxd.it/9NJ8ot

SHOWING UP (2022) is so accurate in its depiction of art school that it is almost sinister
