I subscribe to the @newyorker.com, I was part of ACT UP, I knew Larry Kramer well and know Tony Fauci too. Daniel Immerwahr's piece on RFKJr, features this and other passages that need a reponse. 1/

if your grand approach to politics is bloodless poll-testing so that you're always aligned with wherever public opinion happens to be, you've already lost

“Everyone has to make everything in the United States, or else!” he yells… as his family signs deal after deal for golf courses in other countries… and he accepts hundreds of millions in crypto bribes from unidentified foreign actors…

The U.S. has—had—one of the top intelligence operations in the world. What a resource to make informed decisions. Yet we have an ignorant WH occupant who relies on fringe conspiracists to spread false information. What a danger. What an embarrassment. What a tragedy.

“If you haven’t been poor, don’t legislate for the poor.” - Rep Lateefah Simon, CA-12

“Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.”

So we’ve got $90 million to throw the parade he wanted, but we don’t have the money to fix North Carolina. Got it!

You can tell this is gonna be a good one from the very start storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Via South African agricultural economist Wandile Sihlobo, new statistics on farm killings in South Africa from the ministry of justice. In fourth quarter 2024, there were 6 farm killings, only 1 of the victims was white.

Update: Trump’s stablecoin is now listed on Binance too. 🔍 In 2023, it admitted it “engaged in anti-money laundering, unlicensed money transmitting, and sanctions violations” and paid $4 billion in penalties.

I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

Boyle: We just verified with the congressional budget office and of 13.7 million Americans who will lose their health care because of their bill, exactly zero are undocumented immigrants

Wow, so we bully young people who are doing their best? How about you just try saying CONGRATULATIONS?

What horseshit. America: striving for mediocrity... www.yahoo.com/news/trump-b...

We should be investing in rural communities and making them better places to build a life & raise a family - not shutting down rural hospitals by choking off their funding. Saving rural hospitals is one more reason to call your Representative and speak out against this GOP attempt to cut Medicaid.

I've been frustrated with Slotkin but she nailed it here. That said, I am tiring of the expression "I am concerned..." youtu.be/PXGtK6naE_Q?...

Starting to think that bombarding people with content designed to make them ill-informed, angry, and antisocial for hours upon hours a day has been a real disaster for society and possibly not one we can come back from in our lifetimes

“you should have a choice” means “we get to choose for you”

Do you ever think about the great things America could do if we focused our energy on common good rather than corporate greed?

Whoa! New polling shows that a majority of voters in EVERY SINGLE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT oppose cuts to Medicaid. Members of Congress should take note. ☎️ Flood the Capitol switchboard to voice your opposition to the bill from hell. 202-224-3121. Defend Medicaid! Defeat Cancer!

Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett didn’t hold back—straight to the point, no sugarcoating 💥👊🏽

What an absolute joke that Alina Habba- political arm of Trump- would express "concern" for the safety of law enforcement officers. Boss pardoned all those Jan. 6th folks, remember? This party DOES NOT stand for police or the rule of law.

What's the number again? $4.6 TRILLION cost over ten years to extend the tax cuts for the wealthy (Congressional Budget Office)!! Next let's talk about the long term costs of the havoc wreaked by DOGE...

Yet again Trump is taking credit for what Biden did.

It’s still hard for me to believe that after so many years of deranged posts like this, we’ve still never had a serious national conversation about this man’s mental health.

It's remarkable how much of this administration's agenda has been laser focused on simply making life worse for ordinary Americans.

Adulting.

🧵The largest plantation in the South burned down this week. And the way white folks—especially wedding vendors—are mourning “memories” and “brides who won’t get to have their special day there”? It’s giving cognitive dissonance. Because let’s be real...

CRISPR!

one of the many infuriating things about this is that if the authors of the amendment wanted it to apply exclusively to the formerly enslaved they had the capacity to do so! they would have written it that way! they didn't!

Meiselas: A lot of marginalized communities see fair-weather supporters—people who are with them when it seems cool, and then abandon them when the seasons change. I think that’s bullshit. I think you’ve got to stand with people and be who you are.

Hey NY Times-- It is still a "fringe theory" -- every court has rejected it. There is still a "broad consensus" -- John Eastman is a disgraced lawyer under indictment. The only thing that has changed is the Times.

I guess the no tax on tips comes in the amended MAGA budget

Good morning to everyone but the most corrupt president to ever exist, who is at this moment selling out his nation to the funders of terrorism so his boy can sign another $2 billion deal. Oh and Tom Holman

Republicans are spreading the same old lies about Medicaid work requirements. Here are the facts: -The vast majority of Medicaid recipients who can work are already working -Work requirements do not increase employment -Access to affordable healthcare, like Medicaid, does Know the truth.

“To watch these changes unfold without naming them for what they are is to participate in a collective amnesia about how knowledge infrastructures shape power relations…. What then, is the responsible course of action?” Powerhouse *must* read fr @alondra.bsky.social time.com/7285045/resi...

Shout out to the disabled community for always showing up, always being on the right side of history and justice, always willing to put their bodies on the line, all for the cause of making sure *everyone* has the basic dignity of health care.

Devastating NIH cuts to infectious disease research, eviscerating our nation’s capacity to fight emerging infections and pandemic threats. From @sanders.senate.gov report out yesterday www.sanders.senate.gov/wp-content/u...

Republicans are saying that these cuts will be reinvested into Medicaid for people who "deserve" it. If that were true, the budget would stay the same. But that's not what's happening. Why? Because down the hall, they are trying to finance tax breaks for billionaires.

"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants. Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."
