Notice on extension of ESI status for NIH grant applications. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Folks, a lot of people’s strategy for dealing with the science funding crisis seems to be to flood the zone with a zillion proposals. As a reviewer for federal and non-federal grants, I am here to tell you this is not a good use of your time and energy 1/n

Federally funded DEI training programs and funding sources are disappearing. Meet seven neuroscientists who are filling these gaps. By Paige Miranda www.thetransmitter.org/qa/we-still-...

One thing that really stands out in this tranche is how the government is terminating grants *because they don't like the people doing the research*. Look at this word cloud of research topics. These are the things all those researchers funded by diversity supplements are studying. Seems important!

Open call for Next Generation Leaders! Our NGL program recognizes early career scientists with fresh and innovative perspectives. For 3 years, NGLs contribute to ongoing research and initiatives at the Allen Institute. Apply by June 3. alleninstitute.org/about/people...

The U.S. is facing an unprecedented dismantling of science, research, and higher education. As scientists are fired + research is frozen, so too are all the resources and outcomes that would have benefited society. In their own words, the stories of scientists whose work has been abruptly ended:

⚖️ Terminated NIH grant litigation update: There's a hearing on a motion for preliminary injunction today at 11:30a EDT in Mass. v RFK et al, a case brought by some states against HHS. This is 1 of 2 diff. cases on this topic. I'll be live-tweeting it later this morning. Check back on this thread.

Budget cuts and staffing shortages at the NIH's Clinical center are leading to delays in patient care and disruptions to trials for promising new medicines. Definitely read @jonathanwosen.bsky.social and @jasonmast.bsky.social's story today in STAT: www.statnews.com/2025/05/06/t...

For any who do not know, the increases on the left were the end of the commitment to double the NIH budget over 10 years voted in by Congress following Newt Gingrich's leadership on this. Flatlining nominal dollars under the Bush administration onward led to gradual un-doubling of purchase power.
