Really exceptional reporting by @erininthemorning.com here. The NYT's decision squares with McBride's comments, Newsom, Gallego, and others, to build consensus among Democrats for the jettisoning of trans rights entirely. We're going to have to build a mvt totally outside them if we want to win.

We can never lose sight of the fact that the "Covid lab leak" is a racist lie designed to stir anti-Chinese hatred in the US at a time that the US gov is openly preparing for "great power conflict" with China. A lot of leftists don't seem to grasp that while obviously trans people (and everybody else) shouldn't have to serve in an imperialist military, the real issue here is that the US gov shouldn't have the ability to discriminate against anybody in this way, including trans ppl.
