The world’s grand challenges are complex and multi-faceted, often occurring on multiple scales. AAG’s Elevate the Discipline Resource tier is a publicly available #multimedia hub, ensuring all members from any career point can share their research for public and policy change. 🧵⬇️ #GeoSky #GISChat

I'm taking a hydrogeology course in a few weeks -- I'd be interested if anyone has geog, sts or hist of science recs on the topic? (I find "water" is too determining in these more humanistic fields, but my focus on hist of geology isn't turning up much either)

Late last night, Republicans on the House Budget Committee voted to advance Trump’s Tax Scam that would gut Medicaid and SNAP to give billionaires even more tax cuts. Every Republican needs to hear from their constituents today. Call now if you’re in a GOP district: indivisible.org/resource/cal...

Bluesky scientists/historians! Interested in writing weird creative non-fiction, essays about your research, or the sorts of popular sci-com pieces you’d pitch to The Conversation? I’d be interested in potentially commissioning you for our newsletter HEAT DEATH. (And crucially, we’d pay you!)

The burnout at the end of the semester is especially dismal this year… to everyone in academia…this all sucks. Prioritize mental health in whatever way works best for you. It’s OK to take extra time for that task and/or time off. We need you all here as the foundation for rebuilding US science.

I’ll never get over how, in an era when women’s rights and status are being attacked and eroded in law and culture alike, we were incessantly told that it was boys and men whose suffering we needed to attend to.

One dream I have is that one day physical scientists and biological scientists recognize that they don’t have the same systemic training in social analysis that their colleagues in the humanities and social sciences do and that this means we need help when it comes to doing politics

Thank you so much to @lbnaylor.bsky.social for engaging with our book! @lellyk.bsky.social

I had the opportunity to review @rohawkins.bsky.social & @lellyk.bsky.social fantastic 'how to' book about knowing and being in the academy. Essential reading, not just for academic geographers, but for scholars both familiar and unfamiliar with the academy! www.tandfonline.com/journals/cgp...

“The fractures that arise in world-making* projects should be approached as generative for forming relationships and creating more just and sustainable worlds.” (@chammelman.bsky.social et al. 2024)

Strongly endorse "critical ignoring" - from the insightful @lizneeley.bsky.social "so much is so wrong right now - but I am wondering if you still recognize the good things when you see them...It’s worth thinking about what memories you’re forming in these wild months." 1/2

A victory for the federal scientific workforce! We could not stand by while this irreparable harm continues at NSF, NOAA and all our scientific agencies. TODAY the judge granted our request to temporarily HALT the mass firings at federal agencies under Trump’s Executive Order.

It really is this simple. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Each time you ask an AI chatbot a question, it sends a request to a data center and strains an increasingly scarce resource: water. A 🧵on our investigation into how the data centers that power AI are increasingly being built in highly water-stressed places: www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

As part of the @acme-geography.bsky.social 20+ Anniversary celebration @rikjaz.bsky.social and I had a chat about decolonizing geography. Published here in the just released volume! #geosky #geogchat acme-journal.org/index.php/ac...

In light of the DC raids we want to reshare our ICE watch 101 graphics. Reminder to verify, document, and then report to our hotline.

Sending a second order to the printer for these 😎 Keep 'em coming. These are going all over the USA right now. This is exactly what I hoped would happen. Hell yeah.

Hey folks let's keep this momentum going! Please re-post and encourage people who do research to share what external research funding makes/made possible. Tag your professional societies! They are fighting for us, but they need testimony! @geographers.bsky.social

Children's lawsuits against #climatechange continue despite a Supreme Court setback. Recent wins in Montana and Hawaii show potential for state-specific legal strategies rooted in the “public trust doctrine.” A law professor explains:

NOAA Research introduced and is redeveloping our national Doppler radar network. It provides the radar observations used to keep you safe in severe weather (the same ones seen on TV & your phone). NOAA Research faces elimination. Learn more: www.ametsoc.org/ams/about-am... #SaveNOAA

Hey geographers! If you have been impacted by the cuts in federal funding and have the bandwidth, please share your experience with the @geographers.bsky.social as testimony in their collaboration to restore the NSF. #geosky #geogchat More here: www.aag.org/spaces-of-po...
