Australia's political "leaders" have not learned from the last two decades of tech policy failure ... - internet filter - site blocking for copyright infringement + - mandatory data retention - the 'Capability' (biometrics) - robodebt (digital poorhouse) - COVIDSafe contact tracing app

Entirely devoid of facts/evidence. There is just no plausible argument - either economic or political - that the main threat to the sustainability of the UK's welfare state is immigration or immigrants.

nonzero chance that neither the World Cup nor the 2028 Summer Olympics take place in the United States the way things are going

I had the privilege of visiting Buku-Larŋgau Mulka Centre in Yirrkala (North-East Arnhem Land) last year. If you're in Sydney, highly recommend this exhibition.

+ Australia's Just this week, human rights lawyers have been in the High Court trying to prevent our Government deporting their client to Nauru.

Day after day, the Israeli government continues its project of the physical elimination of the population of Gaza. The world does nothing. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"Ethiopia’s forgotten war is the deadliest of the 21st century, with around 600,000 civilian deaths" - every couple of weeks I think about how this happened between 2020 and 2022 and just...never really made or stayed in the news. english.elpais.com/internationa...

If you're in or around the inner-North this Solstice Eve, my Tomislav is Djing at Creatures of Habit - 319 Brunswick St, #Fitzroy tonight from 8pm until late.

The global aid sector is quite literally on the brink of death right now and the human fallout globally is already obscene and will keep getting much, much worse. People in the U.S. need to be far more aware of this - and angry - than they currently are.

The legal obligation on "age-restricted social media platforms" is to take "reasonable steps" to prevent under 16s from having an account. It is the role of the eSafety Commissioner to provide the regulatory guidance on "reasonable steps" and to enforce any contraventions of the requirements.

The definition of "age-restricted social media platform" include the Act covers forums such as Discord and platforms such as WhatsApp. The Minister has prepared draft rules which set out exclusions to this definition & provided them to the eSafety Commissioner for her advice.

Note the Trial was commissioned by the Government. It is the role of the independent office of the eSafety Commissioner to prepare the regulatory guidelines on what measures constitute "reasonable steps" for the platforms to take to prevent under 16s from having an account on their service.

I started a meetup for OT cyber in Melbourne if anyone wants to go. They said I could use the office and buy beer 🤷🏻‍♀️ www.meetup.com/melbourne-ot...

A good news story from the Internet Society on how 🐝 beekeepers in rural Zimbabwe have embraced technology

The Govt has shown little interest in meaningfully listening to expert opinions or children on this issue. The Bill's Digest stated: "There is limited evidence to suggest that a blanket ban to prohibit children from using social media is the most advantageous solution to addressing online harms."

It’s almost like there are really good reasons legitimate law enforcement doesn’t normally operate masked and in civvies.

Social media minimum age update Note it is the role of the eSafety Commissioner to: > issue the regulatory guidance on what measures = "reasonable steps" to prevent under 16s from having an account on an "age-restricted social media platform" (see ss 63C & D) > undertake any enforcement action.

The words of J.D.Vance are beyond appalling. And the corollary from the EU an obvious response. And think, the University of Bologna was founded in 1088, before "America" was even conceived of. (And the The University of al-Qarawiyyin in Fez even earlier in 859, by - gasp! - a woman)

It is incredibly hard to support our legacy mainstream media & their pleas for subscriptions. We get feel-pinions from the "press gallery" and breathless blow-by-blow of the "mushroom trial". So many important stories are not being told. So many investigations not funded, court cases ignored.

University rankings are utter bullshit; the standard of instruction at Australian universities is a shameful joke that starts with the appalling working conditions of the contingent faculty who do most of the teaching.
