Interest in generative linguistics, history of photography, biomedical research, astrophysics, history (1930s), art criticism, critical history ... But really just an old fuddy-duddy occupying time with reading, photography, and travel.

My phone is now set up to display a background image that looks like flowing chocolate syrup. Only problem is this: Now I salivate every time I look at the phone. Pavlov and Skinner would love it.

We live in a world dominated by authoritarian rulers now at war with one another. What price will civilization pay!

Ok, the deed is done. The local PBS network is now part of my monthly donation regimen. This will come close to quadrupling the annual contribution. Foxtrot Delta Tango.

Just a reminder about the forthcoming talk by Rita Manzini on the 27th. #linguistics artsandsciences.csuohio.edu/linguistics/...

Ever wondered about that fine line between living matter and, well, non-living matter? It is sometimes thought to involve matter that carries mechanisms for reproduction onboard. But the line becomes a little blurry ... www.sciencemagazinedigital.org/sciencemagaz...

One does not expect the deniers to be too happy about this (intuitively obvious) finding. www.sciencemagazinedigital.org/sciencemagaz...

Time for another visit to the zoo, don't you think?

Preliminaries for the US Highway 50 project, Pueblo and Cañon City are now online. At $32 just to take a snapshot, the Royal Gorge was just too much to include.(I'm allergic to overcommercialization.) #photography #Pentax www.flickr.com/gp/lynneuban...

Preliminaries for the US Highway 50 Project, Pueblo, Colorado. Trying to decide between B&W and color, total of four to submit in the end. Today on to Cañon City, Colorado. #photography #Pentax www.flickr.com/gp/lynneuban...

Enough of pleasure photography. Now it's on to photography with a purpose, our project to document old US Hwy 50 coast to coast. The segment I will be working on this week goes from Pueblo, Colorado to Cañon City. Reading up on some history now! #photography #Pentax #Colorado

Last pic here at Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park in Colorado, US. I was having trouble with movement in the foreground object in some shots. It was windy, but I don't think wind was the issue. It was more like a doubling of parts of the foreground, an odd reflection, I guess. #Pentax #photography

Still working on this one. The foreground element (a small, almost bush-like tree) comes off more as a smudge than a blur, ultimately the result of an overhead power line that required me practically to sit under the tree. Going to scout around for a better location today. #photography #Pentax

The risk was pretty low, however. www.medpagetoday.com/ophthalmolog...

Some will be surprised, but those who actually read the Heller decision will know that even that decision, as flawed as it was (and it WAS flawed), left the door open to bans on certain types of weaponry. www.yahoo.com/news/supreme...

Just a little rabbit that we were feeding back in 2013. Plus some Orten. #photography

A friend of mine noted on Substack that BlueSky is thinking its own photo app called “Flashes.” Anybody else heard this? #photography

I am literally so pissed off at Trump and Co. www.medpagetoday.com/special-repo...

I have taken this thing as far as I plan to take it. Ever. It's not going any further. It is time to move on to other projects. So here it is, warts and all. This was originally intended as a practice session, but it's good enough as is. open.substack.com/pub/21043/p/... #photography
