Jose Reina announced his retirement from football. He will hang up his boots and gloves after Como's game against Inter Milan at home on Friday. Jose's had a massive career and we'd like to say thank you for your 8 years at Liverpool FC! He's made nearly 400 appearances for the Reds.

After 346 goals in 660 appearances for Liverpool FC, Ian Rush left the club and joined Leeds United on a free transfer on 20 May 1996. The greatest goalscorer in the club's history and a true icon of Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool FC beat Everton 3-2 after extra time in the FA Cup final at Wembley on 20 May 1989. John Aldridge scored early in the game, Stuart McCall equalised shortly before the final whistle. Then Ian Rush bagged a brace in the extra time, while Everton responded with one more from McCall.

A year ago today, Jurgen Klopp said goodbye to the Kop and Anfield applauded and serenaded the iconic manager from the very first minute of the game until around two hours after the game. I saw grown up adults cry at the Kop that afternoon... Thank you luv!

A new goalkeeper joined Liverpool FC on 19 May 1905. Sam Hardy was 22 when he arrived from Chesterfield Town. He was about to take his starting XI spot quickly and win the First Division with the Reds in his debut season. Sam Hardy made a total of 240 appearances for #LFC and kept 63 clean sheets.

UEFA CUP WINNERS AGAIN! 3 years after claiming the trophy for the first time, Liverpool FC won the UEFA Cup on 19 May 1976. Following a 3-2 win at Anfield, they drew 1-1 in the return leg of the final with Club Brugge, with Kevin Keegan scoring the goal that gave #LFC the cup🏆

Sami Hyypia signed for Liverpool FC on 19 May 1999. He spent a decade at the club and made 464 appearances for the Reds, winning numerous trophies with the club. Sami had a fantastic career at Anfield and #LFC fans love him to this day!

18 May 2016: Reds disappointed in Basel Despite a great strike from Daniel Sturridge in the first half, Sevilla scored three goals after the interval and Liverpool lost 3-1 in the Europa League final. Our first European final under Jurgen.

Happy birthday to a former Liverpool FC goalkeeper and a Premier League legend Brad Friedel! 54 today. It was Roy Evans who imported him into the Premier League, as #LFC signed Friedel from Columbus Crew in December 1997.

Following a successful decade at the club, Ian St John left Liverpool FC on 18 May 1971. This man doesn't need any further comment or introduction. A hero. Thank you for everything, Saint!

Matt McQueen was born in Harthill, Lanarkshire on 18 May 1863. As a player, he won the Lancashire League and Second Division (twice) and he could player as a right-half or as a goalkeeper! As a manager, he led the Reds to win the League Championship in 1923.

Howard Gayle was born in Toxteth on 18 May 1958. He was the first black footballer to play for Liverpool first team, he made his debut in October 1980. Gayle remained at #LFC until January 1983, when he left for Birmingham City. Happy birthday Howie!

Jimmy Case was born in Allerton on 18 May 1954. Happy birthday Jimmy! He was never feared of hard work, but Jimmy Case represented much more than that. Liverpool fans will remember some of his fantastic goals for the club, and he netted 46 times for the Reds. Many happy returns!

David Thompson and Michael Owen holding the FA Youth Cup trophy in the Anfield dressing room after beating West Ham 2-1 in the return leg of the final, having previously won 2-0 in the first leg at Upton Park. Owen scored one of the goals for the Reds that day.

Paul Walsh joined Liverpool FC on 17 May 1984, as #LFC paid Luton Town £700,000 for his services. And he was brilliant for us, until the injuries hit him hard during the most important spell of his Liverpool career...

16 May 2000 Kenny Dalglish played for both sides in the legends game before the 'proper' match when Liverpool and Celtic honoured the great Ronnie Moran. Over 30,000 fans turned up for Ronnie's testimonial. Gerry Marsden led the crowd singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before the kick-off.

On this day in 2001 in Dortmund: what a game, what a dramatic ending, what a final! Liverpool FC beat Deportivo Alaves 5-4 in the UEFA Cup final. The result after 90 minutes was 4-4 and an extra time was required. Unlucky Alaves defender Delfi Geli scored an own goal that gave the Reds the result!

Elisha Scott, a legendary goalkeeper from Belfast, always deserved and will deserve our highest and greatest tribute. He spent 22 years at Liverpool and was arguably the best and the most famous #LFC player of his era. Elisha died on 16 May 1959, also in Belfast. May he rest in peace.

Happy 23rd birthday Ryan Gravenberch! It looks like Liverpool have done a great deal signing him for £34.2m from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

After being turned down by Everton, Jack Balmer signed on a free for Liverpool FC on 15 May 1935, that is 90 years ago today. Not a bad free signing, given he was about to score 110 goals in official competitions for Liverpool.

21 years ago today: Michael Owen, Danny Murphy and Emile Heskey all played their last official game for Liverpool FC on 15 May 2004, as the Reds drew 1-1 with Newcastle United at Anfield and it was Owen who scored Liverpool's only goal that afternoon.

Andy Robertson netted for Liverpool FC for the first time, while Mohamed Salah scored his 32nd league goal of the season as the Reds beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 on this day in 2018.

After two years at the club, Stan Collymore left Liverpool FC on 13 May 1997. He decided to continue his career at Aston Villa. Collymore scored 35 goals for the Reds - 19 in 1995-96 and 16 in 1996-97.

Roberto Firmino scored two goals when Liverpool beat Manchester United 4-2 in a rescheduled Premier League game at Old Trafford on 13 May 2021. Man Utd fans did their best for the match to be abandoned again, they even damaged the tyres in the LFC bus... only to realise it wasn't an actual team bus!

Stevie played a brilliant ball to Djibril Cisse to set up Liverpool's first goal. Then he scored 2 great goals later in the game, including a last-minute equaliser!

Bill Jones was born on 13 May 1921 in Waley Bridge. He signed for #LFC in 1938, but waited until 1946 to make his official debut. Then he made 277 appearances before leaving the club in 1954. The versatile defender won the league with Liverpool in 1947 and reached the FA Cup final in 1950.

FA Cup final in Cardiff on 12 May 2001, Liverpool FC v Arsenal Two late goals from Michael Owen gave us a 2-1 win and Liverpool won the cup! Sami Hyypia captained the team on the day, but ut was Jamie Redknapp who lifted the cup after the game.

12 May 1965, San Siro Inter Milan were a great side, but great sides should not be winning their crucial games in this style. A goal from an indirect free kick for the first goal. A foul on Tommy Lawrence for the second. A disgrace, what else can we say?

Daniel Sturridge scored a hat-trick at Craven Cottage on this day in 2013, as Liverpool beat Fulham 3-1. Dimitar Berbatov put the Cottagers ahead in the 33rd minute, but then Sturridge showed his real potential! Prime Sturridge was an unstoppable goalscoring machine. Injuries ruined him.

12 May 2019 Sadio Mane scored twice on gameweek 38, as Liverpool beat Wolves 2-0. The Golden Boot was awarded to three players who finished the campaign with 22 league goals: Mane, Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang!

We remember Alf Arrowsmith, a fantastic goalscorer who was unfortunately very, very unlucky with injuries. Alf played 56 games for the #LFC first team, scoring 24 goals. 19 goals came in 1963-64 season, when the Reds reclaimed the league crown. Alf died on 12 May 2005, that is 20 years ago today.

Happy 29th birthday Kostas Tsimikas! Kostas joined Liverpool from Olympiacos in 2020 and has made 114 appearances for the Reds since, winning the League Cup in 2022 and 2024, FA Cup in 2022 and finally, Premier League in 2025!

Everyone applauded Gary Macca after the final whistle when Liverpool beat Ipswich 5-0 on 11 May 2002. It was his last game for Liverpool and a chance to say goodbye to everyone. Nicholas Anelka also played his last game and scored one of the goals, while John Arne Riise bagged a brace.

11 May 1997 John Barnes during his last ever game for Liverpool FC. His game count stopped at 407. Barnes spent a decade at Liverpool and left the club as a proper legend. Tell us about your favourite memory of John Barnes. It could be a goal, a great game, a pass or a good anecdote, whatever.

Ephraim Longworth became a Red on this day in 1910. A club captain who went 370 games without scoring, but his role was to be a consistent defender who Liverpool could always rely on, and he did that amazingly well!

THE DOUBLE! A week after winning the First Division, Liverpool FC secured another trophy and on 10 May 1986 they beat Everton 3-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley! The Blues were 1-0 up at halftime, but it didn't matter in the end of the day. What a debut season for Kenny as a manager!
