I love this so much: Brian Wilson hearing Ronnie Spector’s cover of ‘Don’t Worry Baby’ 💜

PACARANA!

There's a local wanker poet, all bad jewellery and nationalism, who I haven't seen in a long while, and it turns out he's too busy with his PODCAST. Couldn't be more appropriate. Love it. Small mercies, lads, small mercies.

When I was 21 the pretty receptionist and I were closing up the office. We always flirted whenever together. She said "Do you ever just want to fuck someone without repercussion?" Don't know why but I said "no not really" and that was that. At 46 I still think about why I said it

Just Say No to the news. Take a day off from it. Drive to the country and stare at a tree for five hours. Make friends with owls. Something, anything.

Confusing

Did anyone expect to see the words 'David Walliams Nazi Salute' in the news today? Apart from David Walliams, obviously.

What every guy over 50 looks like on The Apps

And now Brian Wilson as well, plus Sly Stone. We really have reached that horrible, inevitable period where all the greats of the 60s and early 70s start to leave us.

Essential indeed. I'd suggest that the Americanisms of 'Et Si Je M'En Vais Avant Toi' don't suit Françoise, and would rank it below Message Personnel, but that's merely my take. Hard to believe we've lost Françoise, Jane Birkin and Marianne in just a couple of years. Never stop listening.

Morning all. Photographer Nick Hedges. Child dreaming on a Lambeth tenement balcony,1969.

Well, that Wales game has driven me to drink.

Thirty-three years old, well over a decade in the limelight, and football commentators *still* have not agreed on how to pronounce 'Kevin De Bruyne'. (And tonight, Wales have not agreed on how to contain him or his Belgian pals, and are getting a rare battering).

Oh yes Autocorrect, I really wanted to mention the author 'Ronald Dahl' so it looks like I'm a moron and then not notice for days, cheers for that.

Just in case anyone didn't want him to fuck off.

And still I wait at my window, eyes bleary with longing.

Pulp all look like teachers that lost their school pupils in a cave collapse in 1987.

sometimes when I'm sad I go on my photos from seven years ago from a holiday to Portugal when I saw two stuffed lions who look like Neil and Christine Hamilton

"More than 180 council-run libraries have either closed or been handed over to volunteer groups in the UK since 2016." In contrast, no libraries in Ireland have closed. In fact, in many instances, they've improved, including the two closest to my home, in towns with populations of 2,000 and 8,000.

How did I not know that Ronald Dahl wrote the screenplay for You Only Live Twice?

At a dinner party last night and found myself having to defend higher education against people - all well educated - parroting government lines about ‘rip off degrees’ and ‘value for money’. It seems the wider public have also reduced education to a financial commodity. We definitely are in trouble.

Saw photographer David Hurn, now 91, discussing his recent work yesterday, over at Lisvane Book Fest. His tip for photographers? It's simply like anything else: do it a lot and you'll get better. And only idiots spend 1K on a lens! Shown chatting to a friend (cropped out) and signing a book.

The sad news of his death this week has finally given me the impetus to start Edmund White's biography of Rimbaud. It's been hanging around waiting for about three years.

Thanks for posting this, @andrewmale.bsky.social. New to me, but as soon as I saw a credit for Vannier I knew this would be lovely and just a little strange. Cheers.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

@billcummings80.bsky.social looks indepth at whether music is becoming a "middle and upper class sport". Top-selling musicians are six times more likely than the public to have attended private schools (43% vs 7%) www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/2025/06/04/o...

If you don't receive this card please let me know.

just discovered that three weeks ago, whilst hammered, i took out a canva pro subscription and made this astonishing piece of graphic design. good work hammered me.

I like the prescient reference to an impending 'disco revival' here, in June 1977, just before the release of I Feel Love and, later, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Easy to forget just how fast things were moving and how the records of 74-75 like Rock Your Baby were now ancient history.

At my friend's milestone birthday party on Saturday, someone sang Wild Mountain Thyme, with lots of people joining in, and it was just lovely. That simple, circular melody and the mass of voices on the chorus... it truly *felt* like a folk song; communal, one link in a long chain. Beautiful stuff.

Good morning. This may haunt you forever.

(Just want to clarify that this is a housing estate; I am not an 18th century landowner.)

Current reading: Fried & Justified by Mick Houghton. Tales of a music PR guy: hanging with Talking Heads, a long friendship with Julian Cope, and trying to stop a burnt-out, crazed KLF doing bad things with a dead sheep at the BRITs. Egoless storytelling, telling you the tales, not the man.

On my estate this week I've seen a chalk hopscotch grid, kids climbing trees and a profanity-enhanced cock & balls drawn on a wall. Nature is healing.

Many locals are being priced out of Funkytown, causing a spike in rental rates across the wider Groovyburg area.

you’ve been on my mind all night

Gonna burn some bridges and talk about Unbound, since it's unlikely that they'll sue me at this point. They seem to have spent money that was supposed to go towards royalty payments, expecting money to come in, which then didn't bsky.app/profile/laur... (thread) #unboundless

So, I think it's time I begin, in detailed specifics, talking about the mess that is Unbound / Boundless as a book publisher, in essence stealing most of a years royalties from me and many other authors, as a result of poor financial decisions, and legal BS. Please read and share this thread.

Oh my, there's an account for Actual Names (with sources), for the comiconomenclaturist in your life. It will swallow me whole.
