gaming is always full of difficult ethical choices

So much waste and harm could be avoided if we just treated these as fragile, dangerous tools suited for very specialized use cases, like we do with lasers and circular saws, and not as magic thinking beans

Fight the Empire.

It's been 🔥 1 year 🔥 since we publicly revealed our game fund Outersloth! For transparency (and fun), we're sharing: ➡️ Info about the signed games ➡️ Data about the teams ➡️ Funding ranges and how many each partner has signed ➡️ Slothcoin counts Read now 🔥 www.innersloth.com/1-year-of-ou...

I mean a cul-de-sac is a nice GENTEEL dead end with houses on it that investors can pretend is more than just an ORDINARY dead end, so it's all good.

I mean we told you so and kept telling you and kept telling you and yeah, another word for a “cul-de-sac” is “dead end”. It’s not happening folks. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Announcing: Mandrake! You play the last of the Mandrakes, a sorcerous line of gardeners. Horticulture is a cursed practice... except to you. Your family line is steeped in the green and growing arts, so you’re able to grow such marvels as: runner beans! Cherry trees! The humble turnip! 🌳

We've made it easy to respond to tell the EHRC what you think of its wicked attempt to humiliate trans people. Please use, share in your networks, and allow us to contact you in the future. goodlaw.social/9e59e9

I was at DMU previously and knew this was the way the wind was blowing when the VC said if we wanted to research DMU was not for us. Thankfully I was able to get out. Block teaching has broken my remaining colleagues and internally funded research is all but dead. www.leicester.news/i-work-at-dm...

If you’re in the UK - or have access to BBC iPlayer - I urge you to watch Louis Theroux’s documentary on the religious-nationalist Israelis who have settled in the occupied West Bank. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Jeremy Bowen's long, measured, objective, but ultimately entirely clear and conclusive essay on Israeli war crimes. As Jonathan Sumption puts it: "These things make genocide the most plausible explanation for what is now happening." www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Same in the UK 😭

As an ethicist I’m constantly aware of how I can explain and justify my choices about almost anything but even I can’t mental gymnastics myself around this

My latest in @theguardian.com. It is not the nations on the travel ban that are a threat to US security. It is the US that robbed them of their wealth, destroyed their institutions & environment, & then denied them participation in safety built at their expense. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Basically most ‘AI will take your job’ stuff fundamentally misunderstand what ‘your job’ actually involves or where people add value. It’s the same as people who think a software engineer ‘generates code’ or a writer ‘generates lots of words’.

Now that the teaching term is over, I would like to post this poem that I saw recently.

Rest in Peace Alisdair MacIntyre. His approach to ethics is making increasing sense in an interconnected global world with massive inequality. You can’t devolve ethical decision making to machines just like tacking ethics onto business is a hopeless exercise. Can’t be divorced from context.

Um…

I don't care about Gaza because of my religious beliefs I don't care about Gaza because of my political beliefs I don't care about Gaza because of my ideological beliefs I care about Gaza because I am a human being. Mass murder, starvation, and ethnic cleansing are wrong

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

O Lord, they fight! I will go call the watch.

Wow, today is making Max Verstappen look calm, cool, and collected by comparison

Men are too emotional to use social media

Elon Musk, the genius visionary who could not predict that the guy who has betrayed every person he has ever met would betray him

In the field of political science, we use the scholarly term "shit's popping off" to describe what's happening today.
