I don’t like deviled eggs but I love egg salad sandwiches made from chopped up deviled eggs.

For #WaterfallWednesday, this is the waterfall at the end of Oneonta Gorge along the Columbia River in #Oregon. This was a taken a few years before arson (Eagle Creek fire) destroyed the hillsides above the narrow canyon and rendered the area too dangerous to access.

#MSH45 | May 27, 1980 Timber: $400M Infrastructure: $72M Ports: $5M lost per day Farms: $250M Jobs: 37,000 gone One week after May 18, the economic toll neared $2B—and the ash cloud was still circling the globe.

TIL, when dealing with a clogged dryer vent pipe, skip the snake brush, skip vacuuming, skip trying an air compressor. Go straight to leaf blower.

The Kilauea summit volcano is going apeshit. I’ve never seen anything like this. The V1cam is stunning, like a volcanic fire hydrant that broke off at the base.

Kilauea is going absolutely crazy right now with episode 23 of the eruption. USGS live stream here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqmp...

This little stone on this hoodoo is giving it all it’s got. #utah

Zoe’s journey as a #vancat has been a good one. Three weeks on the road and she’s adapted wonderfully to the cadence of #vanlife and has explored five states and all the smells. She now crawls up under the sunshades to see outside in the morning. Zoomies in a van are more akin to parkour.

Stumbled across this alien communication dish while hiking around the Ah-shi-sle-pah wilderness #newmexico #vanlife

The mineralization of the petrified wood at Ah-shi-sle-pah is different than that what we’ve found in Utah. Very little in the way of jasper, it looks entirely like sun-dried wood. It is everywhere here, but collecting forbidden in this specific wilderness and adjoining tribal lands. #rockhounding

Moving on from my beloved 1DX and 1Dmk4. Both in good working order, both come with battery, charger and cap. Would love to find them a good home. Let me know if you’re interested!

A close up of just the tip of “Long Dong Silver” (it should be “Sliver” IMO) reveals some unsightly junk left over from climbers. Disappointing. #utah

County work crews extracted this massive hunk of petrified wood when unclogging a culvert and left it beside the road. It definitely exceeds the yearly BLM bag limit weight of 250lbs so there it remains. #rockhounding #newmexico

When Shiprock / Tsé Bitʼaʼí, looks like this it’s perfectly acceptable to make a 30 mile detour to see it. #newmexico #vanlife

Tulsa radar shows a weird line of returns, are these storms? No. These are called Radial Spikes, they’re artifacts created either by Side Lobe Contamination (energy reflected off that big pile of rain east of it) or Second Trip Echos. Either way, what’s important is to just know it’s not precip.

The “House on Fire” ruins are a the result of water stains and sandstone weathering for dramatic affect #utah

We wanted to stay another week in Hanksville but rain will make the dirt roads questionable then it’s gets hit so we’re pivoting to Ah-shi-sle-pah, New Mexico. Still a slight risk of rain but less so. #letsgo #vanlife #utah

Moonscape Overlook at sunrise was one of the most beautiful vistas I’ve ever seen. #utah #vanlife

#MSH45 | 8:32 a.m. The ground shudders. A M5.1 quake hits beneath Mount St. Helens. The bulge collapses outward. Within seconds, a lateral blast surges through the disintegrating slope. 7 miles north, Gerry Martin describes what he sees—until the radio goes silent.

Explored the grape agate wash north of Goblin Valley and south of I-70, and it did not disappoint. 30+ acres of the stuff, scattered everywhere in a long, wide band, lots of good jasper, too. Red botryoidal rind with crystalline or jasper core. Rarer ones have larger orbs #utah #rockhounding

Big day tomorrow: moonscape overlook, fortress butte, long dong silver, burpee dinosaur quarry, a spot for grape agate and a new petrified wood spot. #utah #rockhounding

We finally got to explore Leprechaun canyon along UT-95 between Hanksville and Hite. Absolutely wondrous and to get to “Belfast Bouulevard”, no technical canyoning skill was required to this point then it really pinches in and becomes a 3-4 skill slot. #utah #vanlife

Looks like some nascent “Moqui marbles” on the Navajo sandstone near Leprechaun canyon. They were scattered everywhere in the nooks and crannies. Not hard iron oxide types, though. #utah #vanlife
