@chrislhayes.bsky.social: "Since the beginning of March, the people of Gaza have had no outside food, medicine or fuel. They have no way of trading with the outside world...and this is what it looks like."

Going forward, Kansas City and St. Louis leaders will have no control over their cities’ police but will be required to dedicate a large share of their budget to it. That was already the case in Kansas City, but a new law imposes this on St. Louis too. boltsmag.org/missour...

Nationalize the major leagues

The historical parallels are telling. Especially when you consider these pages were written in 2007, well before American democracy came under siege

Shout to Democrats for proving decisively over the past ~year that not only do they (1) stand for nothing and will say anything to get elected but also (2) they’re completely unable to figure out what people want to hear from their representatives

BIG: DC Metro Police decided they had sufficient evidence to arrest sitting GOP Congressman and sent warrant request to USATTY's office. Acting USATTY Martin, who's been explicitly acting as Trump's personal attorney, ignored it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/big-b...

The two genders

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

Would you like that baby syndrome shaken or stirred?

More needless (and potentially illegal) cruelty

Donald Trump has just released a national under 18 trans care ban executive order. I am working through specifically how it tries to do this, and will live tweet here section by section as I read through it. It is not yet on the website, but has been released via press release.

If you’re active on bluesky and feel hopeless, please try to join a local organization. DSA, sunrise, whatever your community has. Just join something and get active. Let’s start small and rebuild this thing

Expansion of the death penalty in the US is rife with moral and economic problems. Among the less obvious problems is where will government get drugs for lethal injection? Major manufacturers in the US and abroad have banned the use of their products in executions.

Yesterday, Trump signed an executive order directing the expansion of federal use of the death penalty and encouraging states to do the same. The death penalty is unjust and cruel.

The consolidation of news media into the oligopoly we know today may be the republic’s death knell. The press is lowkey the fourth branch of government. It was captured by billionaires decades ago and has been manufacturing consent with less and less efficacy ever since.

Something extraordinarily surreal about watching a thing happen, everyone talking about how the thing happened, there's undeniable video of the thing happening, the people who like the thing are cheering about how much they liked it, and every major media outlet refuses to plainly say it happened.

I guess this isn’t surprising, after all white supremacists similarly orbited the first Trump admin. But this really feels like a new low for the nation. Unambiguous Nazis are at the helm and there aren’t many signs of resistance from the media, judiciary, bureaucracy, academia, etc

GruPaul’s Drag Race

Insane that this is the extent of most Americans’ political beliefs - slurs good, woke bad

Something very deep in my psyche thinks it should be a crime to male anyone work the day after a big blizzard. The snow day gods have mandated we all get a day off work and it is an act of sheer folly to defy them.
