NEWS: In one of the first major federal prosecutions of an LA protester, the DOJ has moved to dismiss the case. Jose Manuel Mojica was accused of assaulting officers, but came forward to Guardian to recount how he was brutally attacked by agents. “I feel a huge relief. The truth always comes out."

right-wingers will often say that America deserves credit for ending slavery rather than blame for having slavery. but then we made a holiday to commemorate the end of slavery and they still got mad, which should tell you what their real objection is.

good news from maine

Illinois has enshrined protections to meet this very moment. In a time of increasing overreach and hateful rhetoric, it's more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community. You have a home here always.

Office work is not more IMPORTANT than housework; housework is incredibly culturally undervalued by both sides of the political spectrum. But office work is ten times more empowering because YOU GET FUCKING MONEY FOR IT.

RESULT: Ramin Fatehi, the reform prosecutor of Norfolk who faced an expensive challenge from his right in tonight's Democratic primary, has won tonight.

Pleased to report that a “Vote for Cuomo” truck rode by blasting his voice and got a loud “fuck off out of here” from several neighbors.

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

Brad has been released and the crowd breaks into a chant of “Free them all.”

Can take this back to Ras Baraka getting arrested for what the coverage generally called a "protest" when what he was trying to do was inspect, as mayor, a property in his city where detention was being done without permits under what turned out to be dangerous and inhumane conditions

there's some interesting irony to the organizers of an arms dealer convention having enough of a conscience to blacklist israel but not to simply not run such a convention

New Yorkers: If you haven't settled on your five candidates to rank for mayor, here's a simple metric to use: Rank the guy who was wrongly arrested for attempting to protect an immigrant from ICE, and the four people running against him who showed up to demand his release.

No plan should ever rely on fascists' capacity for shame but every time you successfully shame them is still a victory

so like i know brad lander is a candidate for mayor but maybe the headlines should focus on the fact they arrested the guy CURRENTLY IN CHARGE OF NEW YORK CITY’S FINANCES

16 homes were demolished in village of al-Hamadiya, Syria by Israel overnight. Some "overlooked" an IDF base established in Jan, others were in the way of a new IDF base planned for construction in the coming weeks -- all on newly and forcibly occupied #Syria land H/t @charleslister1.bsky.social

To correct the record here: nothing about this was a publicity stunt. New Yorkers have been doing accompaniments and court-watch shifts every day for weeks. This was @bradlander.bsky.social’s third shift. It happened out of nowhere.

NYC: if you can get to Federal Plaza near the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall subway stops, come support Brad Lander, the latest Dem politician to be manhandled/detained by ICE for no legal reason. Zohran Mamdani is there in support of his fellow mayoral candidate. NYT's darling Cuomo nowhere in sight.

Protect and serve.

My favorite local pupuseria has been keeping their front door locked during business hours because masked ICE kidnappers have been patrolling the neighborhood. Whole areas of LA are in lockdown. It's devastating. All the stores and even the doctor's offices and churches have these posters up.

I know a lot of people just don't really know much about foreign cities, but please imagine how it would go if someone told all of NYC to evacuate "immediately," and then add two million more people to that scenario

we have an elite impunity problem and a lot of the people and institutions that nominally oppose Trump will burn down their own before admitting that this helped produce him

Trump has sent hundreds of people to El Salvador's CECOT for indefinite detention, without charge, trial or sentence. DHS has dismissed dozens of their immigration cases in absentia: "essentially rid itself of its opposing party," an immigration judge wrote recently: www.huffpost.com/entry/cecot-...

this is an utter delight

MY action-item takeaway from yesterday’s events is once again that people need to understand the importance of both brevity and scansion in chants.

can’t believe this still needs to be said, but: stop following altNPS. none of them work for the NPS and they exist to do Qanon numbers station crap and sell merch. it’s annoying for a lot of us that are actually NPS. thanks

The last time nyc had a mayor who tried to mildly reign in police violence they doxxed his daughter so

Romance is alive and well and living in LA.

Law enforcement officers unload tear gas on crowds in Los Angeles, in addition to large amounts of flash-bangs. NBC News’ David Noriega reports from the ground.

Today in #Vancouver. #WomenInBlack against the starvation… against the massacre… against the war on Gaza.

this was my favorite sign today

As wary as I am of Star Wars as an analytical frame, I definitely prefer Andor-themed protest signs to Harry Potter ones.

States should be passing laws that make concealing one's identity while dressed as a police officer presumptive probable cause for an arrest for impersonating a police officer.

So before you go on strike, you hold a rally. This is to show your bosses the number of people you can turn out, the number of people who will listen when you say strike. It gets people involved and connects them with their union siblings. The rally doesn’t “do anything,” but it does things.

I was in a jury pool with David Greenspan. He got picked and I didn’t but I did tell him I was a fan. He seemed kind of annoyed, which I suppose is fair.

“she had asked a boss if he would let his children fly on a plane with the litany of flaws and non-conformances he was urging her to “pencil-whip”: “Cindy, none of these planes are staying in America, they’re all going overseas,” he retorted, much to her horror”

Worth considering that one reason Bluesky doesn't always feel super fun is that current events are relentlessly horrifying and bad
