Oh um, you know what Elon could do to really escalate things right now? The single most painful thing? $30 billion gift to public university gender studies programs. Then Trump could bring back USAID and then Musk builds a giant Judith Butler statue in Palm Beach and so on; cmon fuck each other up

I do not want Gazans to be burned alive. I do not want Jewish people to be set on fire. I do not want these things for any human being. This is not a difficult position to hold or believe.

Periodic reminder:Substack profits off Nazi pages bc they don't want to be "in the censorship business,"but they also won't host adult content,so they ARE in the "censorship business." They just think Nazis are better than pornographers. This is why I will never give Substack a single shiny nickel.

Exactly

Co-sign. This I keep coming back to “blink” just for the lovely satisfaction of that whole scene. She is SO BRILLIANT!

Full story on the arrest of Rev. William Barber and two others as they prayed in the U.S. Capitol today: “Just as Jesus turned over the tables of the money changers, so we have to be willing to put our bodies on the line,” Barber told me after he was released. religionnews.com/2025/04/28/w...

Ah it would appear there is footage of police expelling everyone — including credentialed press — from the Rotunda and closing the doors while they arrested Rev. Barber and two others (I appear briefly in the end): vimeo.com/1079534787

Oh my. I picked up The River Has Roots this morning, hoping to make enough headway to honestly report in my writing class this morning that I’ve started reading a new book. Oops, I finished it. What a beautiful, tender, fierce fable. Thank you, @amalelmohtar.com, for another radiant story.

Horrifyingly true

This is why we have due process; because random people speculating about things is a terrible way to run a government. Without due process, we're all just vigilantes. At its core, that's what this is about. Due process and the rule of law. Everything else is window dressing.

One of the most clarifying things I've seen in the past few weeks is "de-escalate all conflict that is not with the enemy."

You all know I improbably discovered This is How You Lose the Time War at a FL airport just before the pandemic. The right time to purchase *this* book was late March at Giovanni’s Room in Philly, a cool queer-owned bookstore. I can’t wait to dive into the magic @amalelmohtar.com has created here!

Maybe you didn't know that Black clergy launched a 40-day boycott of Target (corresponding with Lent, but heck, this Jew can count to 40 with the best of 'em!). Or maybe you did - maybe you even started! But you forgot. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET [BACK] ON BOARD ⬇️

So scary. We said people would be taken off the street in broad daylight. Here we are.

😂😂😂

they’re arresting people for performing abortions, they’re deporting people for liking pro-palestine posts on social media, they’re sending immigrants to forced labor camps in south america, we are living under fascism right now

Washington Post is reporting that the US Gov't program to send free COVID tests to households will be shut down tonight, and the remaining tests destroyed. If you haven't already ordered yours in the latest batch (autumn 2024's) it's super quick & easy, price $0.00 covidtests.gov

We’re doing an “imitation exercise” in my writing class, and I’m at the point where I am questioning the choice to attempt some sort of imitation of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” Whyyyyyy did I do this to myself?

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in
