In the 1990s, my mother and I took my grandmother to Birmingham, Alabama for the first time since the 1920s, when her father had briefly pastored a church there. She literally became physically ill from grief and trauma. I tried the best I could to glean information, but it was so hard. So hard.

Sotomayor points out the similarities between the Skrmetti ruling allowing discrimination against transgender people's medical care to Virginia's argument for its interracial marriage ban in Loving.

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

Q: Could your recent dustups with Newsom impact wildfire relief? TRUMP: Sure, maybe. He shouldn't have fires like that. You clean the floor of your forest and you won't have any forest fires.

Buncha 19 year old girls are gonna learn the hard way that financial independence is important when they're stuck in shitty marriages and have no ability to enter the labor market and support themselves.

💰 Trump signs an ICE deal with @CoreCivic — the private prison company with high death rates that fails every audit here in Tennessee. A reminder what they’re doing to immigrants isn’t just cruel, it’s also big business. www.pbs.org/newshour/nat...

"The bill would prohibit officers *at all levels* from hiding their faces while on the job in CA, with some exceptions ... Officers also would have to display an ID with their name and badge number. It would apply to people contracted by law enforcement." www.courthousenews.com/california-l...

They are really going after criminals and breaking up the diabolicalTchotchke Cartel. Deplorable. ktla.com/news/local-n...

This is an absolutely disgraceful act of corruption by both major parties. It will lead to an incredibly foreseeable set of disasters: best case, unlimited corruption and scamming, worst case a global financial crisis and inevitable federal bailout. Horrifying that 18 Democrats voted for it.

AFR calls the GENIUS act “a huge giveaway to the crypto industry, Big Tech, and the Trump family.” Details here:

they can shoot us arrest us and the democrats? they help them. they. help. them.

In case you still had any doubts about those claims of racism.

I see the playbook for AI profits is becoming simply to force AI tools on everyone then make them pay for the privilege they never asked for.

A failure of journalism. Neither the push nor the NBC News article notes that THIS IS ILLEGAL. The law allows a one-time delay. That’s it! www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

They arrest Democrats. They murder Democrats. They laugh at their deadly violence against Democrats. When is enough enough?

The total amount of public land that Trump wants to make available for sale is equivalent to more than TWICE the size of CALIFORNIA. All to pay for tax cuts to some of the richest people in world history.

Just days ago, Brad Lander called me to interpret for an Arabic-speaking asylee whose case was approved, yet ICE was still harassing him inside the building. Brad personally escorted him out to safety. He does this kind of work quietly, every day.

"How did Republicans go from condemning leaders who threaten their own citizens to becoming sycophants for one? Here, too, we find a holdover of Cold War rhetoric: the use of Third World to describe multicultural communities such as Los Angeles." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

While Trump keeps us distracted and entertained with circus sideshows and parades, his cabinet of clowns are systematically looting our country for everything they can get. Over a dozen billionaires and multimillionaires all with their greedy fingers in the pie.

Brad Lander, NYC's comptroller (and mayoral candidate), detained by federal agents at immigration court today:

In 2016 MN Police killed a Black man named Philando Castile despite him disclosing he had a legal firearm. Yesterday MN Police released a white woman named Jenny Boelter despite her car full of cash, firearms, & passports hours after her husband mass murdered people & was on the run from police.

“What we have in this generation of ... AI is essentially a business where there's 10,000 mostly white men who are benefiting and 8 billion people around the world who are being either exploited at a minimum or directly harmed...” — Roger McNamee ( @moonalice.com ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8dd...

I don’t know what hospital I was born in, & I am a former Senior Patrol Agent with the US Border Patrol. I know what city & town, but we lived there for like the 1st 6 months of my life.

EXACTLY!!! I cannot tell you how many otherwise intelligent, everyday Dems tell me this. My God, these people won’t see it until it’s them dragged away.

The Senate Majority leader is lying

An update from @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social : The Los Angeles Press Club says police officers repeatedly used "less-lethal" bullets and violated the constitutional rights of reporters covering anti-ICE protests.

We repeat: Assault weapons have no place in our communities. Bulletproof vests, badges that mimic law enforcement, and arsenals stockpiled in secret are not signs of freedom—they are warnings of violence yet to come.

Public lands are just that: public, and owned by the taxpayer. Republicans want to auction them off to the highest bidder to pay for their billionaire tax cuts. Hell no.

There's seriously no way he won 7 swing states...

I scrolled the length of the NYT app just now and unless I missed it there wasn’t a single story or opinion piece on the No Kings protests. But there was this—

NEW: A court-appointed federal monitor has found that an NYPD unit championed by Mayor Eric Adams has been unjustly stopping and searching New Yorkers, almost all of them Black and Hispanic men, echoing the findings of a recent ProPublica investigation. By @ericumansky.bsky.social‬

More than 200 people remain locked in prison in El Salvador by the Trump administration, without any right to trial.

true, I have noticed this downsizing of protests on the left for decades. It just seems especially egregious today.

Just thought I’d note that the front page of the New York Times does not have *a single article* about the gigantic protests yesterday. Millions of people in the streets, and not a single word. It’s been disappeared.

Via ABC News's Rachel Scott, let's never forget for a minute what a classless scumbag the President is. x.com/rachelvscott...

Great reporting from the New York Times.

Melissa Hortman was more than just a Minnesota lawmaker. She was a kind and decent woman who trained service dogs for American veterans.

The most consequential Speaker in state history.

Hi everyone I was denied entry, detained, and deported from the USA over the last 48 hours because of my reporting on the Columbia student protests I arrived back in Melbourne hours ago and had my phone handed back to me upon landing
