jason mantzoukas on taskmaster proves what is maybe my deepest held belief: TM america failed not because of the talent involved but because they fucked with the formula (and recycled tasks. big no no)

i love the mercury very much but my god our court is hideous at the moment. puppy pad looking mfer

me every friday at 8pm:

IDF soldiers have now themselves admitted they have been ordered to murder aid-seekers in Gaza. Truly an atrocity built on atrocity. www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

i use @codepen.io as basically an advanced, code-aware jotpad a lot of the time -- sketching out UI ideas, sharing quick snippets/ideas with my team, etc. i would do questionable things (or even pay amoney) for an offline-first pen notebook that syncs with the site in the background

is it a good sign that every time i open up @sill.social to see what i missed while i was away there's a direct link to some appalling new district or supreme court ruling? who can say

Still a week left to take the State of CSS survey! The survey hasn't got as many responses as last year, so any help sharing will be much appreciated :) survey.devographics.com/en-US/survey...

I wrote about the return of the war on terror, and its favorite mascot, recently rebooted just in time for us to lose another great conflict, our war with climate change. slate.com/business/202...

please stop showing me footage of halliburton suffering an insane injury and scream crying

From Hunter S. Thompson’s ESPN page 2 column one week after 9/11.

personally i would sell the lakers for $10,000,000,001 but i guess $10,000,000,000 is cool too

the Brad Lander arrest got me to finally write about Green Room

[six beers in] We’re gonna win

it feels incredibly irresponsible to me to put an RSVP form on a website for mass protests against an authoritarian regime that controls perhaps the most advanced cybersecurity/warfare apparatus on the planet

wow I wonder if the cops who lied about the sitting senator even though everything they did was on tape are also being less than honest about the presence of violent agitators at the protests in los angeles. they might even not have told the entire truth about other protests

been a few days and its still shocking to me that a company with a reputation for creating thoughtful, useful visual design language -- a reputation 40 years in the making -- thought this was good enough to demo as an exploration, let alone prepare to ship

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

one downside to lumping a bunch of disparate technologies together under the “AI” banner is that regular people no longer trust the advances accomplished using the more transformational of these technologies (namely, derivatives of machine learning) because of the plagiarism machine

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
