“There has been a lot of activity and many recordings of us posted online when working with ICE. For officer safety, remove your name tag from your Class B uniforms only when working Operation Closeout.” ..."For officer safety"...

My sister @lawyeroyer.com on @theweekendmsnbc.bsky.social: The Christleys claim they were politically prosecuted by the Biden admin, but the prosecution initiated when Trump was in office in 2019 by a US Atty appointed by Trump. @jonathancapehart.bsky.social's response: Facts are stubborn things.

NYT: “The episode was recorded by someone who was sitting in Mr. Nadler’s office. In the video, an officer with the Federal Protective Service, part of the Department of Homeland Security, is shown demanding access to a private area inside the office.” @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2025/05/31/n...

“They break the law out in the open over and over again precisely because they want the people to think that the law simply doesn’t apply anymore.” https://trib.al/6hEhqf3

Deporting a gay man to Russia is beyond horrific, and yet this admin is happy to do it. And the verbal abuse he describes is abhorrent; and not new. Guards at detention centers, jails, and prisons get away with crap like this all the time. It’s appalling, it’s not new under Trump, just worse now.

The Trump administration deported a 31-year-old Salvadoran man minutes after a federal appeals court barred his removal while his case proceeded, the government admitted in a court filing this week.

Some company called World of Books (www.worldofbooks.com) sent me a book I didn't order. I've never dealt with this company (that I can remember), and I wasn't expecting a book. No invoice, so no way to get an order number. IDK how they got my name and address. Very odd.

I’m not saying this story is false but I am saying it is totally in the interest of the Trump White House to have a story out there suggesting that some universities are looking to acquiesce.

This is military coup type activity being carried out by armed gangs. It must be stopped.

"He asked for leniency, saying he made the posts when he was drinking heavily, socially isolated and spending his evenings consuming conspiracy theories online. Jonathan Jacobson...for the Justice Department, pointed out that the threats continued during a period when Brockbank wasn’t drinking."

We've got to shut these things down. Use the massive economic power that we have.

The Department of State Catch-22.

Wow @MIT shame on you I graduated in 1986. We called for MIT divestment from apartheid South Africa, including during graduation 39 years later, here we are.

Why is this not front-page news? Where is the outrage and alarm?

“Many internationals don’t want to come to the US because they think their future plans may be interrupted by a whimsical move from the government at any moment. The best of the best in the world simply won’t come here, & the science here will suffer.”

“The fire is 40,000 hectares in size and less than 400 metres from the edge of the city, the city's emergency measures spokesperson said.” Thinking of everyone from Flin Flon right now. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Absolutely devastating and affecting a lot of my colleagues here at @scripps.edu who dedicated their whole careers to coming up with a vaccine for HIV. Which, btw, outside HIV, has led to a whole field of much better vaccines and vaccine platforms.

I finally made a less chaotic, slightly simplified flowchart for common law mens rea for homicide (chart made in Mermaid):

They really don't want Americans to do science anymore

The lawsuits are great to fight the illegal impoundment, but the second there's an actual federal budget passed through Congress that looks like this, it's all over for American higher education.

Oh, no. RIP to a wonderful talent.

Today’s porch flowers. The store advertised these as “Ragin’ Cajun’ Bouquets.” :-)

Just discovered that Fairfax County, Virginia, where I live, has been placed on a list of "Sanctuary Jurisdictions defying federal immigration law." Fairfax is actually not a sanctuary county; it just has the audacity to state that it protects the constitutional rights of all, including immigrants.

NOW— Mass ICE arrests happened/are happening at the Manhattan immigration court at 290 Broadway on the 20th floor. I was just outside the building and an observer came out crying, confirmed they witnessed people getting detained outside courtrooms while families watched and wept.
