Merlin bruh make up your mind

There it is. The clam before the storm.

@maureenstanton.bsky.social on "the evocative power of the smallest grains of storytelling, those tiny sensory details," and how they allow memoir readers to "not only see and hear people and actions, but ... viscerally feel the moods and emotions of the story." brevity.wordpress.com/2025/04/11/t...

Remember the 90s when everybody only hurt sometimes.

This post goes out to all the party people I was staring at for five minutes while I was dissociating in the cafe today. I hope you feel seen now…because you definitely weren’t seen before.

White House says no one will be fired over the Signal scandal because no one involved was trying to cure cancer.

Tbh somebody could have sent me classified war plans in a group chat too and they’d be totally safe because I always just wait for everyone to stop texting and go “sounds good 👍 “ without reading any of it because group chats suck.

Enough with the pollen already, trees.

Can we just skip to the part where the bad guys eat each other already?

Richest guy in the world telling us we can’t afford to have our government fund cancer research.

It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation. I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!

THEM: you look tired ME: I am tired THEM: oh right because of the… ME: the horrors yeah THEM: right right, that’s right

I want my writing to have so damn much atmosphere that things actually burn up in it.

Me thinking of what to post: Okayyyyyy nothing super depressing or existentially terrifying. Nothing that could get me fired. Also make it quirky. And original. Nothing old, either. Bangers only. [Screen turns black and locks]

Never fails. I come home after teaching night class. Dog is nowhere to be found. I unwind for half an hour. Before going to bed I open the fridge and what ho—the dog appears, like, Oh hey, just came down to check on you, so what, uh, what do you think’s happening up in that cheese drawer there

I would love to get a new tattoo but it would defer me from donating platelets for three months again and sadly people need platelets more than I need a new tattoo. Also please donate platelets 🙏 🎗️

Thou shalt accept that DEI didn't hold your career back -- you're just mid, bro.

Once, when I was throwing up on a boat, someone nudged me and said it was because of crystals in my ear. Later, when I told the story and the words “crystals in my ear” left my mouth I thought, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever said. Anyway damn turns out there really are ear crystals—canaliths.

Wow

I've built a machine that can be Confidently Wrong. It can also make pictures that all look a bit the same, as well as make a video of you kissing any celebrity or person you know. In payment, I'd like to boil the world's oceans dry, & steal all literature. For some reason, my head is not on a spike

The people who say “go big or go home” have profoundly underestimated my desire to go home.

BEING INVITED TO NOTHING: I’m ever so lonely and nobody cares about me at all BEING INVITED TO ONE THING: omg it never ends with these people

Hey for real, let’s take care of one another and make some good art this year 🤜 💥 🤛

I wish you a year of mischief. I wish you a year of thought. I wish you a year of uncalculated fun. I wish you a year of constructive disobedience. I wish you a year of deliberate choices. May you be halfway to heaven before the Devil knows you’re dead.

New Year’s conundrum: Last year we performed all the superstitious rituals like not buying anything on NYD and having no dirty laundry in the house and eating all those stupid grapes on NYE, and 2024 was still freaking awful. So was all that for nothing…or did it prevent something even worse?

I came here to do two things: pray and quote Natalie Imbruglia, and I’m all out of faith

Teachers, what grade would you have assigned Ralphie’s BB gun essay? I’m not convinced it deserved that C+ (or that fantasy A+).

I don't know if it's helpful to refer to Elon as "the richest CEO ever to live," but it does put things like "the richest CEO ever to live singlehandedly killed funding for pediatric cancer research" into perspective.

My favorite movie as a kid was Ghostbusters, which starts out by lampooning academia and ends by vilifying the EPA, which is why I feel like it’s weird that I now work in academia and revere the EPA.
