“MPs have personal beliefs, but also solemn duties: that’s why they must reject the assisted dying bill this week”. Gordon Brown is absolutely right

Keir Starmer is showing himself to be the statesman we have been lacking for years. No stupid statements, just calmness and sensibility. I’m not affiliated to his party, but pleased to have an adult working for us.

🍎It’s always a pleasure to visit the folks at New Covent Garden Market but this was a particularly special day as I unveiled their new Garden Wall! The Wall, made up of plaques bought by traders & businesses, - thank you for all you have done to keep this iconic institution flourishing

A great article from Chi Chi Izundu and James Stewart! The evidence consistently shows that introducing a resale price cap, as I have campaigned for and this Labour Government has committed to, is the only way to end the parasitic secondary ticketing market. 🎟️

This #CarersWeek has raised awareness about the vital contribution made by unpaid carers in my constituency and across the UK. Age UK has useful resources for carers that offer emotional and practical help, as well as advice on what financial support is available: www.ageuk.org.uk/information-...

Eight years ago today I was elected as the Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport. A few general elections, plenty of Prime Ministers and a lot of mentions of “Plymouth” in Parliament later it remains a real privilege to do. Thank you.

These findings bring into question the safety of women who, having had their mesh removed, rightly believe their symptoms will improve. 🧵(1/4) www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/nationa...

Farage is a longstanding supporter of a private healthcare and insurance model with the NHS retained as a low quality bare minimum service for the poor. Anyone old or with an expensive to insure condition would be mad to vote for him.

Today marks a special day - it's been 8 years since my first election as the Member of Parliament for #Battersea. We've come so far on issues from accessible transport to affordable housing but there's still so much to do. I will continue to fight for you everyday to deliver change.

Badenoch saying she’ll refuse to speak to people who don’t show her face has two big issues Firstly, it’s nonsensical and there’s much bigger issues she should be talking about Secondly, it shows she is now just reacting to Reform, rather than trying to run a party #bbclaurak

Labour going further than the Tories ever did, and Tories saying they're not going far enough! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... "Clear our mess up faster!"

Great to speak to @thisisriverside.bsky.social about my upcoming Summer School 2025 & how it can help young people in #Battersea take the next step after school. 🚨 The deadline to apply has now been EXTENDED to Wed 11 June. Please go to my website to apply now

Here’s a round-up of my week in Parliament 🌹

fair to say Kemi Badenoch’s last interview on BBC wasn’t a storming success

Another lovely piece in LACA - read it here. laca.co.uk/news/chair-a...

The Met Commissioner for London gave the stark warning that without additional funds, violence against women & girls would significantly increase in the capital. We need to commit to doing what it takes to keep women safe in #Battersea & across London

The Tories made empty promises. Labour is keeping our manifesto commitment to modernise our transport infrastructure. We’re opening up access to jobs, growing the economy and driving up quality of life as we deliver our Plan for Change.

Excellent win for North East transport in the Spending Review! £1.85 billion to improve our public transport including, after 20 years of my campaigning, bringing the Metro to Washington!

🚨 NEW: Labour is lifting 100,000 children out of poverty by expanding access to free school meals. Alongside free breakfast clubs, cheaper uniform costs and government-funded childcare, Labour is putting money in parents’ pockets and giving children the best start in life.

Fantastic news! Well done @sharonhodgsonmp.bsky.social for keeping the pressure up. And from one food justice campaigner to another, a huge thank you 🙏

This is fantastic news. Thank you to @sharonhodgsonmp.bsky.social for many years of campaigning with the APPG @apsenews.bsky.social

Fantastic work @sharonhodgsonmp.bsky.social we are smiling at this news and children will be able to play with energy from nutritious FSM in their bellies! Paul Wright

My statement on the metro extension to Washington 👇🏻 Promise made, promise delivered 🌹

Great news today from the UK, which will expand the provision of free school meals. Kudos & congrats to IPNEd member, Sharon Hogdson MP, who is a long-standing and passionate champion of school feeding & the founder & chair of the cross-party group on school food. 🙌

See my statement on the expansion of free school meals 👇🏻🌹

Fantastic article from the Newcastle Chronicle. Today’s news means more children than ever will eat a hot, healthy meal in school and not be too hungry to learn. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...

After campaigning on this for over 18 years, I am so pleased to see that this Government will extend free school meals support. Providing more children than ever with a healthy, hot, nutritious meal will truly change lives, particularly in the most deprived areas such as some of those in the NE.

Unsurprised to see @radiomukhers.bsky.social on this list. A couple I’ve yet to read but a strong list!

Two I haven’t read yet! But the three I have were splendid

A really strong shortlist. Thoroughly enjoyed reading them all

Teachers are getting a 4% pay rise. We’re seeing green shoots on teacher recruitment and retention, turning the tide on year-on-year decreases. Now, we must go further and faster to deliver excellence, everywhere for every child – together.

1/3rd of UK adults have dry eye disease, which is incurable & can cause other related diseases. Great to speak with Ruth from the Dry Eye Association about what they're doing to increase awareness & provide advice, improving the quality of life for many.

The unbelievable condescension we’re already seeing today towards working class people- suggesting they don’t travel to Europe or their kids might not want to go to university and study in Europe- is quite something to behold.

Coverage of idiots claiming ‘betrayal’ or ‘surrender’ isn’t just bad journalism, it’s a dereliction of our duty to explain things. I’d actually forgotten just how bad it got but here we are, straight back to treating liars & spivs like authorities of equal weight to experts & honest brokers.
